Wow, I knew there were scumbags in this hobby....but this takes the cake (atleast for this month). It just goes to show that even the most unintelligent, uneducated, foul mouth pigs can make a living on Ebay.
It may not be tactful to call someone out on the boards, so I will say this...if you want to know this guys Ebay ID...email me.
I asked for a scan of the back of one of his cards (1970 PSA 8) and this is the reply I get.
He replies: "I enjoyed that 71 off center you paid above SMR for!...lol"
I responded: OC? ..the only 71 I have is a high end 8 which is a beauty
He replies: "high end?....lol the skerbes laughed when you paid above SMR, good bye dumb f*** you are truly an ignorant c***sucker!"
How lovely. I am so tired of morons on Ebay and their attitudes. I can pretty much guarantee this response was provoked because I probably outbid him on one or more cards lately. I guess this is how parents are teaching their children to handle things these days. Unreal.
Just for those that are curious, this is the 71 his is referring to (bought from Ebay seller: Skerbe)
** Note: To save myself from having to explain later: Because of Ebays refusal to remove my 1st negative feedback, I asked them to close my account (as suggested to me by another member here). I don't know if he was serious or not, but I took his advice. I would rather start over than have my first feedback be a negative one....even if every other deal went 100% perfect. I was only at (7) anyway, so no huge loss.

The responses you are getting defy explanation.
Have you checked your deodorant?

Have you checked your deodorant? >>
Ya know...lol I was think the same darn thing.
I can say this....and maybe this might offer up some sort of explanation as to why these things are occuring.
I switch hobby focus on a dime...and I have very "high standards"...I am not rich, but I manage my funds well and buy the best that I can afford. When I jumped into the Delmon Young BCDP Gold Refractor auto game, I jumped in feet first and bought up 16 of the 50 that exist in a matter of 2-3 months. I know I caught a TON of flack for that. I was accused of everything from being a thief to ..well, you name it and I heard it.
And now, I just recently (May 06) decide to start collecting Pete Rose. And, like any other collector, I want the best that I can afford. And already, as evident in the responses I am getting, it seems I have rubbed a few the wrong way with some of my purchases.
All I can say is......WOW, how childish and pathetic can some people be to try to pick an Internet fight over a piece of cardboard. To those that fit this mold...grow up already. This is supposed to be a hobby and be fun. Enjoy it or find something else to do.
And yes Mark, this has been one heck of a week. But not all bad....let me outline:
1) Have 4 packages from Gamefly.com stolen (my redneck town has civilian postal carriers who steal)
2) Find out my wife and I are expecting our first !!! (in nine months I'll have my best mailday ever!!)
3) 2 cards are stolen from my mail (civilian carrier never checked them in and poof...they disappeared) Investigation pending
4) The email response I had the other day from 1 Ebay loser
5) Now this turd today ...another Ebay mogul
EDIT: Wait, almost forgot the best. There's more to the " '71 Pete Rose debacle". (I swear this card will live in infamy.)
Short version:
It was supposed to be here Saturday. No mail Sat, not even junk mail. Home all day Monday...check mailbox several times..nada. 5:30 pm EST pink slip in mailbox "Sorry we missed you" POSTDATED 6/3 (Saturdays date) Hmmm??!! Call and reschedule delivery for today. Stay home another day to sign for it (Thank God for flexible schedule). Nasty, dirty civilian carrier shows up, drops off mail and speeds away....hmmm?? Check mail, no pink slip, no card and no knock at door to sigh for card. Ok. Call Post Office supervisor. She tracks down package in the carriers car!!...for 4 days. Supervisor says she will hand deliver it herself to me tonight on her way home.
Anyone care to try and top my week?? I seriosuly don't think it is possible. lol Seriously, I am venting...but I take it all with a grain of salt. I am too happy about our good news to left this other BS even get to me in the slightest.
As they say...life goes on.
stunned that someone thinks they have the right to talk to someone else like that over a trading card... i don't care the price or value, it's still just a card.
what an A-HOLE!
ps - what the heck are skerbes? can you get a shot for that?
You see a 1970 PSA card you're interested in, and email the seller to request a scan of the back of the card. His response to your query is "I enjoyed that OC '71 you paid above SMR for'". Your response to this is "OC? The only '71 I have is a high end 8', to which he calls you a few names.
Do I have this right? Did an Ebay seller actually insult a potential buyer, AND make fun of some of his recent purchases? If so you should feel honored, as this has to be-- by far-- the most bizarre Ebay-related email exchange in the history of the Internet.
<< <i>EB - ya need to turn on your private messages in your profile options.. can't pm you.. >>
Turned them on
And thank you ahead of time for the number and the advice. I think I will take the extra time and see that this guy gets what is rightfully his...

You're 100% correct, it doesn't. That's the best part. It is just my luck lately. There's no rhyme or reason for this kind of stuff.

Especially since the only seller that has or had a PSA 8 1970 Rose is uncommons and I have heard nothing but good things about him.

Uncommons? Is that an Ebay ID? If so, that is not the guy. Like I said, if you want to know who it is..PM me...don't speculate.
I am just reporting what happened, with nothing to benefit from this. So no need to imply that I am not being honest here.
Thanks

I PM'd you. I am not posting just yet, and I'd appreciate it if you didn't either.
I want to see where this goes....I find it amusing how you come here to talk or chat and some people (the same ones every time) like to find fault with the original poster.

I rarely do that. It just doesn't sound like all the communication was there. I know that there are a lot of jerk offs on eBay. There are several guys I wont buy from. But even the worst guys don't usually do that unprovoked.
Sorry to hit your sensitive point, but when people here see things that don't seem to add up they like to pry for more info to make sense of things.

I hear ya and I understand.
But that is it..in total..start to finish. I am as taken back as the next guy. I can only begin to assume what did it for this guy. And as I said in the opener, I wouldn't doubt I outbid one of his others ID's for the '71 (as that seemed to be his focus).
I am only guessing (as a Psych major) that he tried to use some version of kiddie psychology on me by telling me how my card was so horribly OC, and how the seller laughed at me for paying as much as I did...blah, blah and blah....in the hopes that what..maybe I would turn around and say "OMG!! My card sucks!! I have to sell it ASAP!!" ?? LOL (truth be told, I know the guy is a moron because i didn't "buy" the card..I traded for it So I know the seller wouldn't have said anything about how much I "paid" )
It really is all I can come up with. And not being rude, but when I try to figure something out...I am usually right.
No hard feelings with you and I though. I'm still getting to know everyone here. Didn't mean to get defensive and single you out.....

No worries and no bad blood here. He probably was acting childish and got outbid on your card. You should post his name so people can bombard him with useless questions, that's always fun

With that said I want to make it clear that my issue is NOT with Skerbe. He was an absolute delight to deal with and one of the most easy going transactions I have ever had.
The remarks came from some other jerk name dropping Skerbe.
So Skerbe, if you read this..I apologize for adding you into this topic without your knowledge ahead of time. This has nothing to do with our transaction.
Thanks,

Let's here it if you can ........
Also, its possible skerbes knows this guy and they were talking about it.

Honestly, I hadn't even looked. I am just basing my opinions on my experience with people and my gut instinct. I am sure that is the case though.
Either way, what's done is done. I hope he feels like a big tough guy now lol I certainly won't be losing any sleep over it Just thought I'd share one heck of a day, and an even more exciting week with everyone.

There's a couple psa8s in the buy it now store section at the bottom -
psa8 for 145
psa8 for 140
EB is right that there are a lot of foul mouthed people on ebay. I guess it's a lot easier being tuff on a keyboard than it is in the real world, whatever the real world is.
In all honesty, I feel that there are more stupid people in this world than smart ones. This is the main reason that I bought a ton of land (woods) around my house. I deal with people all day long and after I leave work, I don't want to see a single person outside my family!

You think you've had a bad week, just get a load of this crap :
Some of the ice in my drink just melted.
Also, one of my toes kind of hurts if I really think about it.
Not only that, but a couple of boxes of cards arrived today so now I'll have to spend the entire evening busting wax.
Let's see what else ... oh yeah, if the sun keeps shining, I'll probably have to mow the lawn next week.

oh yeah? well my balls itch.. and it burns when i pee..
I can't count how many times I've wanted to say 'excuse me', turn my chair around, pull an Al Bundy, and then resume conversing with my co-workers.

<< <i>Hey, you should be d@mn happy if your balls have the decency itch when you're at home where you can enjoy it. *My* balls always seem to itch at the worst moments - usually during a meeting at work or when I'm in the middle of a public area. And it's always that back area too - the area that you can't reach with any kind of subtle motion. Really ticks me off.

I always keep a sawed-off metal coat hanger inside my pants just for those occasions.
You can put your hand in your pocket pretending to look for a note,
all the while manipulating the end of the wire hanger around to scratch that crazy itch.
Works like a charm, and nobody's ever the wiser ...

I don't know if this tops your week, but I'll give it a shot. This past Monday was Memorial Day. However, I was in the office all day working getting a motion out that the Managing Partner had asked another associate to do, but determined his work product to be crap and so asked me to complete which I gratefully did.
Tuesday, I got into the office at 5:30 a.m. to get some work done before leaving at 7:30 a.m. to fight two hours of traffic to downtown Los Angeles and sit through ten (10) hours of boring depositions. I got home that evening past eleven and went to bed past midnight.
Wednesday, I got into the office at 5:00 a.m., to see what work had piled up the day before before leaving at 7:00 a.m., to drive to 90 miles first to La Jolla and then to San Diego to sit through nine (9) hours of depositions. I got home that evening again past eleven and went to bed past midnight. I checked my emails that night and see that plaintiffs had noticed a hearing at the last minute for the next day (Wednesday) in BARSTOW.
Thursday, I got into the office at 5:00 a.m., to see what work had piled up the day before before leaving at 6:00 a.m. to drive 115 miles to Barstow to attend the hearing. Having notice the hearing at the last minute, the Judge elected to call the matter last. On the way back from Barstow, I received a call from one of the partners to stop by San Bernardino County's Recorder Office to locate and pick up some certified documents. With Wedneday being the last day in the month, I had to get my time sheets in before leaving the office that day. I think I got back into the office around 6:00 p.m., and spent the next three (3) hours getting my time in. I think I went to bed that evening around 11:00 p.m.
Friday, I was back in the office at 6:00 a.m., because I had to get some work done before leaving again at 7:30 a.m. to fight two hours of traffic to downtown Los Angeles for some more depositions. The first depositions went about five (5) hours. We were waiting for the second and when it was 30 minutes past the scheduled start time, we call her and found out that she simply forgot about the deposition. Great. I thought this would be my saving grace. However, the moment I got into my car, so did everyone else. It took me three (3) hours to drive 38 miles to get home. I wanted to go out that night, but was simple too tired.
I will already concede that for some, this may not seem like a lot, but for me, it was pure hell.
/s/ JackWESQ
On behalf of everyone who's ever been there, Barstow is the definition of hell on earth!
My heartfelt condolences to you Jack ...
