What is going on with ebay and paypal?

Went to pay my pittance to the pauper and selected "one time payment" just as I normally do. Then it takes me to the login for paypal and after entering in the information, it asks me if I am sure that I want auto-payment.....WTF?????

From paypal:

By agreeing to these terms, you are giving eBay permission to charge your PayPal account on a one-time, sporadic, or recurring basis to collect fees that you owe eBay, unless and until you cancel this Billing Agreement. You authorize PayPal to pay from your PayPal account the full amount of fees presented by eBay. PayPal will not initiate payments on its own under this Billing Agreement; it will only pay out charges initiated by eBay. eBay will present you with an invoice at least 10 days in advance of charging your PayPal account.

Hmmm......I ain't lettin anyone have the right to draw money out of my account any dang time they please....

Guess I will have to go and beat on their door and pay in cash.
This is a very dumb ass thread. - Laura Sperber - Tuesday January 09, 2007 11:16 AM image

  • Ebay owns Paypal and it's there way of trying to insure they get paid for your listing fees. You will find they only bill once a month, I've never actually had them try to withdraw money more often then that. There is a better method however if you do wish to use Paypal funds to pay your Ebay fees. If you have a Paypal debit card, place the Paypal card as a credit card on file with Ebay, if you don't have one get one, then you can make one time payment using the Paypal debit card as an alternate funding source. This accomplishes two things, it allows you to use your Paypal funds to pay your Ebay fees AND you will get a cashback bonus from Paypal every time you pay your Ebay fees! Essentially .... Ebay (who again owns Paypal) will pay you! to pay them!

This kinda made me angry as well but even though you get shot to the "sign up for automatic payments", look for the one time payment button on the window. It's there, it's just not obvious because they want you to "accidentally" sign up for that baloney! image

Edited to add: if you work Ebay and PayPal as a seller, they can already get what they want and when they want it! Many on this board will attest to that so your only control over your fee's is to pay them when you can with the One Time payment option.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

I ended up going back to "My Account" from the "My Ebay" page and clicking on the link to "using another payment method".

This allowed me to make a onetime payment from my paypal account and NOT sign up for auto payments.
  • TICKED ME OFF TOO! So I backed out of paying them because I refuse to allow
ANYONE OR ANY COMPANY free anytime access to my bank account(s). With ID theft running
rampant we have enough to worry about! Let them charge my credit card!

I hope Google follows through with their payment site soon! This ebay paypal
monopoly is getting waaaaay too costly and out of control. image
