The sketch is on the cover of Coin World. Very cool coin image

I will make an exception (as I do every now and then) and buy this modern.

Just my luck. I haven't gotten a Coin World in three weeks, and it was running a week behind then. I was hoping they would chose the draped bust design. (Although the capped bust would have been ok. I was afraid that since it was a gold coin they would have picked the gold turban head design. Never really cared for that one.)

Like Baley, I, too, would make an exception and purchase this coin.

You do realize that it will be low relief and have the dreaded spaghetti hair, don't you? (I hope not)

Actually, the story specifically states that the design will be faithful to Liberty as portrayed on the draped bust dime, and will be executed in "the highest practical relief"

when I get a chance, I will post the sketch and a few quotes from the article. This will be a popular issue!

prices on actual 200+ year old draped bust coins could also, shall we say, "continue to show strength" image

I don't like the whole idea of the First Spouse coins and I really don't intend to collect them, but I might make an exception for this one coin, and possibly the other two coins that use a Liberty head portrait. I think it will be interesting to study the mintage figures for this series and see what effect the Liberty portraits have on mintages. It might be qute telling, and useful in future arguments on coinage design if sharp upward spikes in mintages occur among a lackluster series whenever a classic Liberty Head design is used.

But more importantly, it looks like we may say the return of denticles to American coinage.

  • I'd post the image and article.....but I don't want to get sued image

Here is my problem with the coin..............the design is nice enough and certainly better than what we see today.......but can someone please come up with a nice original design for a coin???? Why do we have to continue to go back in the past and recreate Buffalo Nickels etc..........is there no creativity left in the world?? I see foreign coins everywhere that are highly artistic and creative and then I look at our coin designs which have circulated in some cases for almost a century with only minor changes.............such a shame for a Nation as Great as ours don't you think???
