I’ll start with this
They just can’t seem to get anything going.
Thursday night they allow 2 runs and score 1, in the second game Saturday they put a “7” spot on the board and still lose as they allowed 13 runs, and today they score in 3 different innings, while holding the nats to just one scoring inning and still find a way to lose…
This homestand was supposed to be the "easy" part of their schedule...

They've had a good run. What is is, 14 or 15 years winning the division? It's sad that they have only one ring to show for their efforts. How much do you think the franchise misses pitching coach Lou Merloni?
The Braves suck. They should have bought Rickey out of retirement for goodness sakes.

They are striking out too much and not exectuting. And, when I see Andruw and Chipper try a bunt a few times each, I will believe they want to win. The Jones boys have not been playing like they mean it.
Andruw is not a clean-up hitter. Wilson Betemit should play first and bat fourth.... Until Scott Thorman gets promoted.
<< <i>They're missing that pitching coach who came up to B-more. Really missing him. Whatsup with Hudson? >>
I dunno. In all the years Leo Mazzone was pitching coach, I don't remember him ever throwing one pitch.
Roger McDowell knows what he is doing. He can't make Sosa pitch the ball low. He can't make up for shoddy defense and lack of hitting.

Hey, but you can't tell me Mazzone didn't turn guys into producers. He's got a eyeloupe for arm & body mechanics, he's a dang near genius when it comes to it.

In all the years the Braves were on top, they never really had premier closers. Mazzone had a knack for turning the Wohlers, Rockers and Lightenburgs of the world into good pitchers. It seems like many of the guys in the bullpen were very medirocre coming into Atlanta and didn't fare so well after they left, but while they were on the Braves, they were successful.
This year, however, the pitching is rotten. It is difficult though to see how much affect Mazzone had on their success as his new team, Baltimore, also sucks...
I can't figure out why they got rid of Julio Franco... relatively speaking, his salary was small, he was a fan favorite and he worked a lot with the younger guys.
My scapegoat: LaRoche. He always has a dumb look on his face, and he's hitting an earth-shattering 0.130 against southpaws.

after walking 3 batters with no outs in the 6th, smoltz then at 103 pitches BATS in the bottom of the 6th inning with 2 men on. risk not scoring the tying run in the 6th and smoltz's arm falling off in the 7th just to avoid 1 additional inning of bullpen work.
the bullpens' collective line in the 8th: 6 runs for 3 outs.
<< <i>They've won, what, 5 in a row, and are crushing the Cards tonight? >>
yup, after tonight, 6 in a row and they're averaging almost 13 runs a game in their 4 games after the break.
at 44-49, they've got a long way to go, but they've started the 2nd half well.
if the mets go 0.500 from here, the braves need to go 0.672 to catch them... it's possible, but the wc is a more reasonable goal.
<< <i>I read in the paper today that the Braves just matched the '30 Yankees for scoring 10 or more runs in 5 straight games. The last time the franchise reached double figures in 5 straight games was in 1897 when it was called the Boston Beaneaters. >>
wow, i didn't know that it's that rare. the amazing thing is that the padres had the best era in the nl before the last series so the braves have been scoring them off good pitching.
smoltz pleaded with cox to pitch today on short rest, but cox is starting shiell against carpenter... it's going to be tough to keep the streak going.
the best road trip in over a decade. 4.5 from the wildcard, 11.5 from the division.
Team essentially left for dead, and they are making a lot of noise, and will be a player for a playoff spot.
If there's anything in the tank, this weekend would be a good time to start their rally!
