is this how a Upper Deck label should look?

Im new at this, but I have to question how the label looks on the ebay auction item. Please advise. Also, I tried calling UpperDeck to get confirmation, and could not get through. the phone number in the Upper Deck information on this auction is NOT correct. Help, please.

thanks

  • the seller passes the "smell test" IMO and there are some savvy bidders in contention, so my gut instinct is you're safe.... that said, i'm anything but an expert on mantle autos.. doesn't ebay have a service where for a small fee you can get an opinion on whether an auto is legit? if i'm not mistaken, it's handled by psa...
  • You can check out the upper deck site, but this cert number isn't in the online db, but there is a message saying you can call to try and verify it.

I got a response from Upper Deck:

"In regards to your question, I’m showing a different item registered under that hologram number. Please feel free to email with any other questions.

    Thanks,

    The Upper Deck Company"

  • wow.. that's not good.. that info combined with the appearance that the sticker isn't quite right, pretty much spells it out then... maybe the seller should be made aware of the situation? He could also be an innocent victim in this, depending on how he got that ball...

  • yuck.. neither would i!

  • I just emailed the seller. I'll let you know when he gets back with me.

I emailed him this statement from UD:

  • This was his reply back to me.

The proprietary hologram on ball matches the hologram on the COA. The holograms are tamper proof so you tell me what is going on?

Yes, but that COA looks counterfeit? image
  • that COA and sticker could belong to any cheap UDA item, where the sticker was probably taken from and stuck on that ball.. the upper deck representative also confirmed it's from another item.. so he takes a $50 legitimate UDA item, peels the sticker off and sticks it on a fake auto ball and sells it for big $$$ and the numbers do in fact match? it stinks to high heaven at the very least and is more than likely outright criminal fraud IMO.. something definitely rotten on this one.. looks like it might have been going on a while also

  • You can tell that sticker has been messed with.

  • Please tell me that these people are not this stupid. How easy was it to check with UD? What about his other items JSA?

well, the good news is Im going to get a TV piece out of this... I video taped the ebay site and will use it on TV. For those of you not in Los Angeles, I will post the link to the station's website after the report airs so you can see it.

I also sent the seller an email, but he did not respond.

UD told me they referred this to their "fraud dept." after I called them about it.

  • woohoo guys.. we're gonna be FAMOUS!!!
  • mr. mendelson.. i've heard the name.. can't place it.. you do a consumer protection bit on channel 9 in LA? or is it channel 2? definitely please remember to paste us with the link, i'd love to check it out! nice work! turds like that guy selling that fake mantle ball deserve whatever happens to them.
  • The link to the auction in question didn't work for me. I wanted to see how obvious the tampering looked. I have a UDA Mantle and Ted Williams baseball. I bought these so long ago that I can't remember talking to a UDA rep regarding their authenticity. I kind of freaked out when I attempted (a few minutes ago) to type the hologram number into the UDA website listed in this thread and I was told that "my hologram numbers were not in the database". I called UDA and they informed me that since my items are old, they are not in the online website but rather in a book that they need to look up manually.

    Yes, on KCAL-9 and CBS-2.

But here's an update: UD now says they are still investigating the ball and the authentication-- no final decision from them yet.

    Will keep you posted.

    thanks.
  • now i remember! ends every bit with "i'm alan mendelson, and i'll fiiiiight for you!" this is great.. nice to meet you!

    cheers. Alan

Sounds like this might be the same problem here. I hate seeing buyers get screwed.

    Please keep us updated.

  • LOL...

    The listing has been pulled......

This listing (#8821866307) has been removed or is no longer available. Please make sure you entered the right item number.

If the listing was removed by eBay, consider it canceled. Note: Listings that have ended more than 90 days ago will no longer appear on eBay.

Try searching for another item now.

  • Did anyone get that seller's name?

  • The seller was cyberlegends( 768)

  • Looks like ebay did pull it.

I emailed him back and asked him why he pulled it or if ebay pulled it. If the seller would had ended it, we should still be able to see the listing, but since we can't ebay must had pulled it.

  • doesn't look like anyone will be getting ripped off on that ball after all..

oh by the way, the $20,000 "Mickey Mantle PSA Lot Authentic T206 & 1933 Goudey!!!!" auction that was the subject of debate on here the other day.. i emailed the seller and asked him if he would use escrow and sure enough, he wrote back and said "not at this time.. thanks." flags don't get much redder than that....

    that auction was ebay 8818010402..

the report was on the noon news today, friday, 6/9.

here is the link to the website: http://cbs2.com/video?cid=95

the TV report will be on the web this afternoon.

there is no additional word from Upper Deck, and the ebay seller still has not responded.

  • I just emailed your link to the seller and asked him for his side.

I doubt that I will get a reply back.

    Thanks for posting.

  • His reply back to me:

Guess what...joke is on them. UDA admitted yesterday (after finally doing their homework) that this ball is authentic. I can forward the confirmation email from UDA to anyone who wants to see it.

I bought an autographed Corey Dillon jersey pretty cheap once. UDA COA was a fake - hologram and COA matched - but not to the UDA database. It is a fake.
