How long before you file an NPB ?

Auction ended May 20th, The guys sends me an e-mail saying he is going to pay by personal check a couple of days after the auction ends. The end of the first week after the auction I send him another invoice, I get no response. The end of the second week another invoice, No response. Is it time to start filing an NPB with this guy or should I give him more time?

  • I say that you've been MORE than generous as far as waiting is concerned. I when buying and selling my policy is that eithe I pay or mail stuff out between 24-48 hours (not including holidays & Sunday).

2 weeks is too fair, imo image I would start the process.

I agree. After I waited 3 weeks for a $3 check and I now put in my listing -14 days to pay or I will file NPB-. If you cant pay dont bid.

  • i'd say check his feedback.. if he's solid other than this unexplained incident, hold off on the NPB and try to call him or email him again and again.. if he looks like a weasel, file it... that's my 2 cents

I'd say it's time to file the Unpaid Item Dispute with eBay. I'd recommend very clearly noting in your future listings, though, that the UID is automatic if payment isn't received within X number of days - I go with 10. I don't have to file those very often, but when I do, payment almost always follows very shortly thereafter. In the very rare occurence that a buyer still doesn't pay within 8 days of the UID filing, I close the UID to get my final-value fee back, leave an unemotional and to-the-point negative for the buyer, and relist the item. Of course, the buyer also gets an Unpaid Item Strike from eBay. I've actually had to do that only 3 times that I can remember -- and none of the buyers hit me with a retaliatory neg.

10 days max. Or good communication with why a delay is reasonable. File today.

Ok guys, I thought I would give you an update about what happened with the UID I filed against this guy. I hear from him (or Ebay's Dispute console) Two days after I file. This guy responds through the dispute console that I made it difficult for him to Pay because I did not accept Pay Pal, Which I did and always have. He says he will cancel his check that he sent two weeks ago if I will send him a Pay - pal invoice. I have already sent him three, by the way. So I send his invoice and he pays immediately, with a note on the Pay pal receipt that says "Please ship Soon". Well, I shipped it out this morning, with Delivery Confirmation, and I even went the extra mile and bought Insurance for the item ,which was just $14. I thought the guy might try to pull something so now I am covered. It all ended well, a lot better than expected.image

I used to file on the 10th day religously. Now I'll wait a little longer, moreso out of laziness than laxing a little.

    My Auctions
  • As a seller..... I will file the NPB after the 7th day. I make it very clear within my auction description that payment must be received within 7 days of auctions end. With this said, I expect buyers to follow my rules or simply not bid if they can't or won't!

As a buyer.....I generally wait 2 weeks before I send an email to the seller. I'll wait another 48 hours to give the buyer a chance to answer the email. If I don't get a tracking number within 48....I'll start the chargeback process.
