NYC Mayor's Trophy Game

Beginning in 1962, the annual Mayor's Trophy Game between the Mets and the Yanks was a charity event to benefit NYC sandlot baseball. Does anyone know the final win-loss stats in the series and where the games were held on a year-to-year basis?

Thanks!

I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.

  • Anyone have the totals for each team's salary over that period?

Can you say Celerino Sanchez? How about Doug Flynn?

The Mets and Yanks played in 16 Mayor's Trophy games.

    The Mets won 8

    The Yanks won 7

    1 game was tied.

Edited to add: the first was in 1963. I think Steinbrenner had something to do with ending it.

The games were never televised, radio was the only way to hear the game live.

    Good for you.
  • Thanks WinPitcher......now can you tell me in which years were the Trophy games played at Yankee Stadium?

    Thanks.

After doing a quick search on Google it looks like the game was cancelled from lack of attendance and the players preferring to have the day off.

Steinbrenner may have decided to donate the equivalent amount of cash as the gate receipt to give the players the day off.
