Home World & Ancient Coins Forum

I just came across this auction site on Coinsheetlinks. It is run out of Greece.

It's not an eBay type setup. More like Heritage's continuous auctions format. I went ahead and registered and will be bidding on something in the currency. If I win I'll report back and let everybody know how it worked. The prices are in euros, but you can change it to $. They are setup to take Paypal payment. Wish me luck!

  • Are you sure it isn't a hoax site? I kind of remember that someone was spamming that site in another coin forum.

  • I'm not sure. That's why I put it up here. Which other coin forum are you talking about?* Also, is there anyway to confirm with paypal that the site is legit? They have the Paypal symbol thing. If it is a fake site, some one needs to hijack it and use it for their own. It's setup really nice. I did get a "complete registration" email. I'll do a querie whois. Maybe that will tell me something.

The site is 100% legit. I know the owner, he sells on ebay too, his handle is 4223john. Remember that your purchases through the site are subject to 15% buyer's comission.

  • Drimiti - a whole forum was affected with his spam.

To me, regardless of what intention that was for is nothing more than a spammer, regardless of legit or not.

John is a very nice guy and I've done business with him several times this year. Here are a few coins that I bought from him ,some of which were resold later :

My latest trade involved several banknotes from my part for which I got 3 wonderful talers from dr Kurt Peters collection, here's one of them:

edited to add that I was unaware of that spamming. He has invested a lot of money in that site and eventually made a few mistakes in the beginning, regarding its promotion mainly. But I can assure everybody that the items that he has for sale are as described and generally better looking in hand than in the photos.

I've looked at his website and I'm very impressed, especially how you can zoom in on coins.

  • I think it is a really nice site. But it does sound like they blew it on the spam thing. I read the email you received and I'm bummed out. I'm a member of coincommunity also and I didn't get one!!! And, I wouldn't have minded it at all. But, that's my personal view and do respect your opinion on the matter.

BTW, I have seen some of John's coins in person, they are very nice and accurately described for the most part.

  • Perhaps indeed it was a bad mistake during the initial promotion - unfortunately it did make a bad impression on me. Just by looking at the site's name and that reminded me of reading such email - just shows how much I hate spam. But again, that was almost half an year ago - I'm sure people learn image
