Is it a piece of braided string? I find something now and then on Kennedy's that looks like that.

Hard to tell in your picture but is it maybe a coller cut of the plancent. The pattern looks like the edge reeding to me. And is it on, or in the coin?

It is called "Struck-Thru Reeding" and is considered a Mint Error.
I have an Bicentennial Ike in my Ike Error set that also has the same thing and is
    on the reverse as well.
    A VERY COOL find!!image
'Could be worth a couple of hundred bucks?

In order for PCGS to label it as mint error, you have to pay for that service, either 40 or 18 dollars depending on which service you use. As I mentioned to you before, it looks like struck thru reeding and worth some money, but not the $5,000 you said you have it on eBay for.
