Dropped by the local shoppe today.

Picked up 3 darkside cheapies. Not high grade, but I liked the coloring.

Welcome aboard.
This is one of my favorite coins. It was made in NZ from 1933 to 1964 if memory serves. Until the
1947 issue they were coined in .500 fine silver. Mintages were mostly in the few hundred thousand
to the million area and were not extremely popular to collectors due to their low silver content. Unc
examples while not scarce mostly sell for between fifty and a hundred dollars. Mintages soared in
'47 when it became a cu/ni coin and it became extremely unpopular with collectors. All of the issues
up through the mid-'50's are very scarce. Despite the high mintages and the very paltry demand
they still command higher prices in unc than the silver issues.
The hunter is a native New Zealander known as a Maori. There are also a 3P, 6P, and 1/2 Crown in
this series of silver and cu/ ni. The country went decimal in 1967 and the later coins are motr readily
available due to large mint set mintages. Several varieties are extremely rare in nice condition, though.

I agree. Very nifty indeed. Something one would certainly not expect to see on a coin.
Looking for alot of crap.
Another one of my faves:
Now if only I could afford a Waitangi crown.
