A Quick Rhetorical & Unanswerable Question Re: 2001 Bowman Chrome Albert Pujols Ref./AU

For purposes of this post, I assume that there are exactly 500 2001 Bowman Chrome
Albert Pujols Refractor-Autograph rookie cards out there. Here is one of them:

2001 Bowman Chrome Albert Pujols Refractor-Autograph 282/500

Do you think any of the 500 still reside in an unopened pack? Have all 500 been identified?
Or do you think it is possible/probable that there is a card shop/warehouse/secret installation
where boxes/cases of 2001 Bowman Chrome are being stored that has one of the Albert's
in them? I recall for a while that Vincecarder (sp?) was tracking all the 1998-99 SP Authentic
Vince Carter rookie cards. Anyone done the same/something similar?

Has anyone or know of anyone that actually pulled the Albert from a pack? As always your
thoughts are appreciated.

On a different note, sadly the most RECENT copy of SMR that I have is January 2005. (My
subscription ran out and Barnes & Noble stopped selling them.) Is there anyone out there
will part with a recent (though not necessarily most recent) issue of them SMR, e.g. February,
March or April 2006 issue? I'd happily send a SASE to cover all shipping charges and only
ask that upon receipt of the manilla envelop, you stuff it was the SMR and deposit it in a
mail drop. Please PM if willing. Thanks.

  • The only shenanigans about the Pujols Ref /AU card that I know about is that some of the cards have been re-numbered to a more desirable number (i.e., his jersey number).

The pujols was a redemption so there are none in packs. (there are likely redemptions still in packs but not the actual card)

I guess there are probably still some at the topps warehouse or something though.

    Interesting point.

If someone were to pull a redemption today...

    Will Topps honor it?

If not, one could try contacting Topps and ask how many they have left.

Then, if you wonder what will happen to them?

Down the road - keep an eye out at the Toppsvault.

topps will not honor expired redemptions, so it is safe to say that less than 500 cards were pulled..now wether or not 500 are
out there is another story...topps has always said that unredeemed cards are burned. How would you like to be the one who
has to go out in the back and burn 75K in Pujols cards....anyone here have enough will power to do that?

    Kevin

Is that policy written on the packs or what?

To be honest, I see no problem at all having them bring those cards out for auction down the road.

    What do you think?

I don't know why, but I found this to be hands down the funniest post I've read in at least three months. I can just imagine the look on face of the 9$/ hr stoner who's handed these cards and told to toss 'em in burn barrel back by the dumpster.. "Uh, yeah, chief, I'll get right on that..". Truly a priceless visual.

  • This is a great question.
I have wondered about this very question many. many times.
I also believe that the Pujols card was a redemption. A redemption that has since expired.
So, with that being said...why are the box prices still outrageous ???

I think the box prices are high because:

    1. People think you can pull a Pujols
    2. There are some other decent cards in the set
