Check out the new Buffalo Nickel pics :)

I just updated all of the images for my developing registry set, so have a look! My camera and photography skills are not stellar, but at least the pics are uniform now.

First of all love the forum name and your buff registry set is off to a very nice start.
Awesom looking coins and your 1913-d ms66 type looks like a 2 feathers? Also well struck and undergraded, nice set you should be proud.image

  • Thanks Caitlin- that means a lot coming from someone with such a discerning eye as you image As for the 1913D it does have a full feather. It may just be the camera angle that gives it the appearance of a 2 feather.
My problem now is that I am getting into the tougher coins, and they get quite expensive from here on out!

Thanks again for your kind words-
  • On second look, the feather is there but it is a ghost. In looking at my reference books this is typical of the 2 feather varieties for this date/mint. Thanks for pointing this out!

BUFFNUT ,THIS IS AN AWESOME SET ,IT LOOKS TO ME LIKE MANY ARE UNDERGRADED.

  • Thanks Ed- there are some in the set that just boggle my mind as to whyn they didn't grade higher. Others have that great strike, but have very well hidden marks. The 27D would be a lock 64 or better, but it has a rather noticeable scratch in front of the Indian's lips. The 31S has a MONSTER strike, but several ticks in the fur of the buffalo that keep it from 66. The 1923 and 1925 are my most recent submissions and for the life of me I can't fathom why they only got a 64 grade! There was a 1919 in that submission as well that was a lock 65 shot 66 that only got a 64 as well. Seems like I'm getting raked over the coals on grades here lately. I mainly submit my coins so I can add them in the registry, but every grade point counts!
  • Buffnut,

While I have read the responses regarding your fine collection, I must say that, hands down, the best nickel is the 26-D. That isn't just a "nicely struck for date and mint," that coin is hammered for a 26-D! It's my fave and you should be proud to have it in your collection. I settled on an MS-62 for my 26-D just because it was the best strike I had seen for the date and mint.

Keep on working your collection. You have a great eye for buffaloes. And I'll give you a wave as you pass me by one day.

  • Buffnut,
Very nice pictures and some great coins in your herd. Many do look like they have a shot to move up and I agree that the 26D is hammered.
I am looking to complete my set and need to find several upgrades but will be hard to match some of your coins without spending crazy $$$.
    Keep it going . . .
