51 Bowman Norm Van Brocklin RC- just thought I'd share....

I picked this up at a card show this weekend: Norm Van Brocklin RC

Looks like a no-brainer 6 with good centering. My question is this: I bought it for $145 which was about half Beckett. I would grade and sell if I was pretty sure I could make at least $50 on it (using one of my free collectors club subs), otherwise I'd keep it. Do you think this would bring $200 as a 6? Surface is clean, not trimmed, back is centered and free of stain.

Very nice card Lee - superb colors and the centering is really nice - it will look great in a holder!

How accurate is the SMR on that card?

But, good luck if you grade/sell it.

The Van Brocklin is one of the last 3 cards that I need in my search for all of the stars of the 1951 Bowman set. I have searched on ebay for a long time looking for a "deal" on it. I have seen a psa 5 sell for just under $200 several months ago. I think you can realistically see $200 for it if graded PSA 6. Card looks real nice! If you put it up after grading, I am sure Ill be bidding!

I didn't have SMR with me when I bought it so I had to go on instinct. Beckett had it listed around $300 and I thought it was a high-end 6. I figured SMR would be around $175 (it's actually $165), but this might bring a little more because of the centering. If I can't get $200 I'll just hold onto it.

A raw "Ex-Mt" sold on ebay for $100 and it looks a a full grade lower than mine- link.

That card looks beautiful to me! Why wouldn't you think it would get a 7 ?
I am buying and trading for RC's of Wilt Chamberlain, George Mikan, Bill Russell, Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, and Bob Cousy!
Don't waste your time and fees listing on ebay before getting in touch me by PM or at gregmo32@aol.com !

It crossed my mind, but I think the corners (all four are touched) would keep it from a 7, but I guess it's not out of the realm of possibility. It's funny how sending cards out to PSA changes you from overgrading your cards to undergrading them. I would've called this card Nm-Mt 5 years ago, now I'm calling it Ex-Mt. I'll let you know how it grades out.

    Interesting Lee
And there's still guys out there dealing with the "old standards" - like the Pologrounds - been advertising in SCD forever - the guy only has Nmmt and Mint cards for sale - raw.

Makes ya think - plus if he has a PSA 8, he has it priced as much as 2x his raw asking price - what's that all about? Doesn't he trust his own grading?

I'm loaded with cards purchased in the 80s which were graded Nmmt - that now look more like 4s, 5s and 6s!

    Whether it's a 6 or a 7, that's a sharp card, Lee.
