Check this out.

I bid on this card and was outbid, way out bid. Checkout the bidders on this and you make a judgement if there is something a little shady here.image

  • this is a $50 card....what is going on???? Am i missing something? Maybe if i needed it for a set it could be a $100 card, but $300 and still going? Is he a deciple of Colonel Sanders?
  • Looks like shilling to me.

Private feedback, only one feedback, and bidding on same seller's items.

Anything is possible on scambay, but sometimes a crazy/stupid
buyer will run stuff up, without the seller being a part of the scam.

I know that DSL is one of the least favs to some folks on this board,
but I have bought stuff really cheap from them (way below SMR) and
nobody has ever shilled me. Most of the time, I was the only bidder.

Also, sometimes a bidder will just try to mess up an auction, with no plans
    to pay if he/she wins.

Maybe scambay should get rid of the "private designation" on items below
a certain dollar value. Maybe any item below $1K or $2K should have to
be transparent. If a "private fb" buyer wanted to bid, he would have to
temporarily remove the mask. (Any member can go public/private at the
    whack of a few keystrokes.)

My guess is that DSL is probably not involved in stuff that could/would get
them tossed. Only a guess, and I might be mistaken.

  • I seriously doubt DSL would shill.

They usually start items with an opening bid that they're comfortable with. In this case, it was only $39.99 so I'm sure they're happy with the price.

My guess is that someone on the registry has a second ID to bid on select tough cards. Either that, or they are trying to make someone else pay more, but I doubt it's DSL's doing.

Actually this is not a 50 dollar card. There might be schilling but this card is hard to find in an 8. Or at least it was a few months back.
  • He ran that buyer up on a Walt Frazier rookie as well to $303 and won an uncut sheet from toppsvault for $3050
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Looking for Al Hrabosky and any OPC Dave Campbells (the ESPN guy)
  • I agree with iamthegreatcornholio. DSL has always been first class to deal with. I wish that they took Paypal, other than that... Perfect !
My focus, 1970 Topps Baseball Raw and Graded, pre 1989 PSA Hockey and 1933 INDIAN GUM ! Yikes!!
  • for what it's worth, i have had many dealings with DSL and found them to be completely professional and severely doubt that they would allow any shill bidding... you don't get to that level of ebay feedback and risk it with that nonsense, and i know they would not..

are you serious? they list 2,000 cards a week all with bids at what they feel is reasonable. do you think they singles out 1 300 dollar card to shill when there volume and the fact that they sell 100`s of low pops a week that go for premiums. the witch hunt is on again
  • also, if they were going to shill bid i would hope they would be smart enough not to do it in small, easily detectable increments like that.. the feedback score and bidding practices all point to an ebay nooblet with too much money to blow or maybe something shady by the buyer, but not the seller.

besides it is Tom Sanders. A great player who belongs in the hall of fame.
  • It could be a sour underbidder that tried to backdoor (get an auction to close early) on another item that DSL had up for auction. He's probably trying to win any or all of the items and then not pay. I hate these kinds of losers.

Apparently the high bidder was willing to pay more. I paid $6.50 for my PSA 7 Sanders that looks like an 8.

I agree with Seraph. I have dealt with DSL many times and there is no way in my opinion they are involved in any price fixing on their auctions. This appears to be a dummy account set up to mess with DSL auctions for some reason. I would keep an eye on this auction and the bidder to see what happens after the auction closes. My guess is this auction will end up being relisted.
