Home Trading Cards & Memorabilia Forum

Introduction

A few days late, but I took my cue from Arsenal83 (thanks image )

My name is Jason and I am 31 years old. I've been a baseball card collector for more than 20 years. Over the years my focus has shifted...well, quite frankly I've been all over the map. From vintage (60's-70's) to newer autos and gamed used autos, to basketball, back to shiny Bowman Chrome baseball autos and now back to vintage...where I plan to stay.

I have grown tired of a lot of areas in the hobby....including most of the online forums and the people that are there. Especially the ones that are litered with kids and thieves. I'll leave out the names but am sure everyone can be keen enough to figure out which place I mean. That is partly the reason for my sudden return to "vintage". I decided to go back to collecting what I love and not what is hyped. No need to "keep up with the Jone's" image I am simply collecting what I enjoy...the way it should be.

With that said, I am a HUGE Pete Rose fan. That is where my focus is right now. Perhaps in the near future I will begin to work on a PSA 7 or a PSA 8 1963 Topps set (one of my favorite sets). But right now I am concentrating on completing my task of Pete Rose basic Topps issues fro 1963-1989, all PSA 8 and PSA 9.

Though I've only been here for a few days, I am beginning to see that I will enjoy my time here. There seems to be a broader base of mature, knowledgable collectors here. That's what I have been looking for...it's more my speed.

I hope to learn a lot from some of you older guys, so I hope you don't mind if I ask questions image And please, if I ever post in the wrong area, just let me know. I am still getting my feet wet here. And I thank everyone for the warm welcome I've received so far.

Well, I belive that's about it. If anyone has any questions...please feel free to ask.

Thanks,
EB31

    Jason

While we're on Rose, besides the regular stuff, like a SS auto ball, my best friend was in Vegas and got him to sign a ball and gave it to me - what a guy!

And I have this painted piece that I want to get auto'ed some day and this PC is auto'ed but I didn't get it and I can't tell for sure if it's part of the pic or not - under 10x - the auto doesn't turn to print dots.

I was planning a trip to NY to get an IP Rose auto..didn't pan out. My wife has family in Vegas, we may still take a trip out there to get his auto. I was working on a side project of an auto ball from each of the 18 living 3000 Hit Club members.

I got an autograph once from Pete's first wife. She came in to McDonald's where I was working, and I asked her for an autograph on a filet-o-fish wrapper. She signed it "Keep on cookin', Karolyn Rose." You see, I was cooking at the time, so that's why she signed it that way.....kinda clever, huh?

that begs the question, if you ran into her in the restroom, would she have written "keep on crappin', Karolyn Rose" on a piece of toilet paper???

    Interesting...

Now that's something a bit different. Rose's first wife was on Oprah many years ago...

It seems she was part of a group of ex-wives of celebrities - kinda like a "First Wive's Club" - she did not have much nice to say about Pete.

I guess Pete traded her for a "child bride?"

With Delmon Young being suspended the rest of the year for the bat throwing incident, how much has his bowman chrome gold refractors been affected if you don't mind me asking?

Hardly at all. There was a dip in prices, of course...but nothing drastic.

Just to note, he comes back from suspension Monday.

They were (before the suspension) getting about $2500-$2750 per 9.5

We'll see what they end up at by the end of season...provided Delmon doesn't let anymore of his ghetto attitude out.

but according to you, you already gave all $30,000 worth of these cards away to your nephew and he traded $7500 worth of them for an ipod... am i missing something here?

it happens every week here since i joined in 2002. people give collections away, get mad at psa and are never collecting again.leave the message board and always come back after they make a good bye speech.

even had one member tell everyone how stupid they were and he was doing a thesis for college on grown men collecting cardboard in little plastic slabs, and his explanation was someone hacked into his account.

the wigwag scandal was broken by a member of the board............so stay tuned

I am so lost after reading this thread. If you or someone you know has any information about the cases you have seen tonight please call Unsolved Mysteries at 1-800-555-HUH?...Who know perhaps even you could help solve a mystery.
    image

    P.S.
Unsolved Mysteries is going to soon undergo massive changes. Producers cite to reason for the changes as being a complete lack of mysteries left to examine. After covering Bigfoot, the Loch Ness monster, U.F.O. abductions, Kathy Lee Gifford, Gonzo, ghost stories, and various other paranormal phenomena, the well has finally run dry. The show will now be entirely devoted to solving really difficult crossword puzzles and word jumbles.

thats kinda what i thought.. i figured he probably just got his panties in a wad about something and pouted about leaving the hobby forever, and to add emphasis, he made up the story about giving the cards to his nephew..

    or something like that..

if i gave expensive cards like that to my nephew, i'd also let him know how much they were worth, and i'd tell him if he ever traded one for a iPod, he'd have an ass kicking coming his way..

I just asked Jason that question on the other thread...

I gotta tell ya...I've told some great stories in my life...

Sometimes for attention, sometimes for entertainment, sometimes when I was feeling unappreciated or ego deflated, sometimes for??? Who knows? But eventually, I had to fess up - if only to myself.

Holy crap, just when you thought it couldn't get any worst, EB busts out his shill account "phillie phanatic" to spam the boards with absolutely the worst case of trying to bury negative threads in the history of this forum.

Good God man, just give it up and move to another message board. IT'S NOT WORTH THIS BEATDOWN YOU'RE RECEIVING!!!

Seems I struck a nerve with the Honeyltd scam. All he had to do was mind his own business and stay out of mine. image
