Ebay pulls plug on planned summer TV series

ABC Switches From Buyers To Liars
By Jim Benson
The online auction service eBay has pulled out of the planned summer
reality series Buy It Now, forcing ABC to pull it from the schedule.
The show, about needy families putting prized possessions up for sale
on eBay, was slated to debut July 31, airing at 9 p.m. Mondays and
Tuesdays.
Earlier, eBay had been involved in the development of a Sony Pictures
Television syndicated strip that, after years of development, never
made it to air.

In other words, a show about people exploiting desperate people and taking advantage of their dire situations.
I think I'd rather watch a train wreck. It seems less horrific than a show about predation.

There is a show on BBC America, think it's called "Cash in the Attic". On that show families needing various things (A car restoration, a new boat, new laptops, send the kids to college, etc) figure out how much they need to raise, and some antique expert goes through their houses and picks out things to take to a live auction to raise the money.
I think this was going to be the American version, only they were going to eBay the items instead of a live auction.
I will admit, it is an addicting show to watch. It's almost like The Antiques Roadshow with a twist.

<< <i>there is an american version of cash in the attic on home and garden tv, or on discovery...its quite entertaining and not exploitative at all. >>
I've seen it and it's great! I want them to come to my house so I can get rid of some junk.

Sure enough - HGTV Mondays at 8pm. I hardly watch that channel and didn't realize there was already a US version. I wonder if the eBay/ABC version would have been similar.
Looking at the HGTV website, the needed purchases are: a hot tub, patio upgrades, landscaping, new bathroom, boys playroom, etc. Doesn't sound too "Needy". Now I'll have to try to remember when another TV program is on.
I wonder if the "Buy it Now" name is why they cancelled it - that is what eBay was recently in court about.
