Picked up an 1809 Bustie this morning

I picked up this 1809 this morning. I am sure I paid to much for it but I could really care a less. I really liked the die crack on the reverse going through "America" and to the arrow heads. Would I be correct in assuming that this is O-109b? I paid $150 for it and it is graded VG-10 by PCGS. I will get some pics of my own when I have it in hand. Here are the sellers pics. So do you think I paid too much and what do you think of her?image

If you like her it doesn't really matter if you paid too much. In 40 years, who will remember or care?imageimage

My overton book doesn't show a 109b, but the description sounds like that's what you have there.

I'd probably be happy with it for 150.

I think ya dun right well for yerself

That is a good looking VG-10. I like the break through America on the reverse.

I can see the built up metal at the arrow tips, but I cannot see the crack continuing clockwise as specified in Overton for the B-die state. I will assume you can see this crack sand do have the B-die state. My set piece is the A-die state so it is not nearly so interesting as yours. I wonder if you have the experimental edge IIIII.

There are not enough of the 1809 O-109Bs around to say you paid too much. Considering what PCGS charges, $150 does not sound much out of line. Nice coin.

I am not sure if it has the continuing die crack but I will as soon as I have it in hand. If it does not have the continuing crack would it be a O109a or a O-109a ½? image
I will also take some pics of the edge once she is cracked out. I think she is going to look great in the album with all of her sisters.image

Normally, in order to reach a later die state as per Overton, ALL the characteristics of the die state MUST be present. In this example, the crack should go clockwise from the arrow tips all the way up to the rim at F, basically completely around the coin. The picture seems to show what could be a crack at the left center of E2, so I am optimistic this the B-die state.

  • $150 is a good deal for that coin. Underrated dates are 1807-1814, imho.

1809 is a very nice year.
I like this coins surfaces and I like this coin. To me- $150 bucks is fine for this little lady.
Check the edge lettering for us when you crack her open.

You never pay too much for something that you really want. Price makes no difference-you wanted it and now you have it. The search goes on. Bob

  • I like it!..150.00 doesn't seem like much, but then again, I'm buying proof Indian cents, and 150.00 seems like a bargain. Pretty coin with a great look.
