Do you ever give 'want lists' to annoying dealers that you are fairly sure they can not fill?

and you are fairly sure because you already have all of them or know where they are

so new ones have to be made?

    What I don't like...

When I give a dealer(s) a 'want list' and never get contacted, even though 'want list coins' show up on their site. image

I always ask them to locate a certifiable PO01 Ike dollar. I even leave the date/MM up to them.

That usually ends any and all solicitations...
  • When I run into a dealer who wants my business, and who talks well enough to make me believe they have a chance really to help, I'll give them an honest want list. I rarely hear from them again.

But the only ones who are regulars for me are Mitch (Mr. Wondercoin) and Warren (Mills) of Rare Coins of New Hampshire. And they've been great.

    Best wishes,

Sort of like some forum dealers that say "get on my list," and you never hear another word from them?
An IM from them saying, "sorry I didn't get enough to go around," would keep you from passing up on chances to buy from other venues. But no, they make you feel the coin will come for sure and you end up waiting forever for nada.
    Been there several times.......

Happens to me all the time, most recently just last week. Luckily I was able to buy the coin before the other sharks moved in for the kill.

I've NEVER gotten a call from a dealer to whom I've given a want list, so I don't bother any more.

Like a good l'il collector in the 70's and half the 80's I had want lists out on the street. As a rule, they produced nothing. And looking back, unless you are connected, with a ready wallet to pay whatever it takes all the time, sellers really don't want to be bothered. And they usually don't want "hard" coins to find or work with fussy buyers who can tell a nice MS65 from an "iffy" one. Looking back, my want list was rather difficult, no surprise no one wanted to play.
