Hurricanes Vs. Oilers for cup....your pick?

Okay, who you guys rootin' for and why?
For me, it's the Canes because I have a crap load of
Eric Staal RCs I'm gonna dump. The kid is just awesome!

Regardless, should be a great series.

Ugh. I haven't cared less about a Stanley Cup final in about 15 years. Go 'Canes, I guess, but I doubt I'll watch more than 20 minutes of the whole thing.

BTW, this has got to be Bettman's worst nightmare. First year out of the lockout and he gets a team from the Southern US and a team that's somewhere up near the 60th parallel.

Kinda creepy how closely it parallel's the last final in 2004, no? TSN's commentator described this final as Rednecks vs. Roughnecks image

I'm cheering for Edmonton, if only because I hate the idea of the Stanley Cup residing another year in the South, but I can't say I have a vested interest in either team. I'm not going so far as to make a prediction, since nearly every hockey pick I've made in these playoffs has backfired, but I can tell you the outcome will have a lot to do with how the well-rested Oilers come back after their long layoff. They will have the advantage in energy, but will they be able to shake off the rust quick enough to compete?

I am pulling for the Hurricanes. The team has a few former players from my team.....the Flyers. They have Rod Brind, Justin Williams, and Mark Recci. Should be a great series.

I'll pull for the Oilers to bring back some of that '80s magic they used to have...

The hockey is going to be exetremly entertaining to watch. To Canadians that's what matters, not location. Hey Bettman, move as many teams as you can up north!

    Go Oilers!

  • Have to go with the underdog, Edmonton. They only reason I pulled for the Canes was I thought the Oilers matched up better against them.........
  • Oilers. Cup belongs in Canada.

I believe the good folks up north appreciate and understand the importance of hockey more so than, say, Floridians or Texans.

Hockey, in my humble opinion, is simply a novelty for roughly 15 NHL cities. Ugh, don't get me started.

    Anyway, Go Oilers . . . I guess.
  • It's a tough choice....

I like the young talent on the Oilers handling the scoring as well as Smyth.
Carolina's got the experienced players with them. Staal couldn't have asked for a better line this year with Whitney and Stillman. Brind'Amour is back to playing like he was in Philly.
As much as I like Edmonton, I gotta go with the 'Canes on this one.

    Cheers! Wick

  • The canes win it.

The cup remains in a place where it never snows, and the pastime is drinking beer and watching cars take many, many left-turns.

  • I was hoping for Oilers/Sabres, considering that Buffalo was one of the hardest hit cities from the lockout--I think they ended up laying off 2/3 of their staff...But with Oilers/Canes, I gotta go with Edmonton.
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Forget blocking him; find out where he lives and go punch him in the nuts. --WalterSobchak 9/12/12

I freakin' hate Chris Pronger, so I'll go with Canes, even though it wouldn't be geopolitically correct for them to win. And I gotta agree with phreaky: How Edmonton responds after a big layoff might be one of the major factors in the series.

I'll have to go with the Hurricanes since their ECHL team, the Everblades is here in Ft. Myers, FL.

A great franchise that does much for our local community. When the team began planning construction on their arena they approached local government about the possibility of making the building strong enough to use as a hurricane shelter. The locals put an extra million into the building and it now is the largest such shelter in the state, maybe the country. This being my business I worked with the ownership and found them to be very agreeable.

They made a fantastic business decision in putting the team here 8 years ago. With all of the part time residents in the winter, many from hockeyland in the upper midwest, attendance is great.

The ownership actually is from Michigan I think?

Hurricanes. They just seem to be overall the more powerful team. I know regular season standings mean about zilch at this point but they were consistently in the top three of their conference. The Oilers, remember, barely made it in the playoffs. It's gonna be fun, though.
  • GO WHALERS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Oilers.

They already beat the (future) best team in hockey.

It's the Canes relatively easily. Six at the most. They were pushed to the wall vs. Buffalo but they have looked to be the best team in the leauge throughout the playoffs.
  • I am 100% behind the Oliers ! Best 8th seed I have ever seen in any sport !!!

The league should be pretty happy. The Oilers making it is huge. They would never have been able to pick up many of the players they have now under the old NHL system.

Should be a good series to watch. I will take the Canes.

    I'm rooting for the Oilers.

Samsonov winning the cup combined with Jumbo Joe winning the scoring race will be the straw that breaks my back.

I went on-line and purchased some tickets so I want it to go to Game 5 or Game 7. Can you guess which games I bought?
GO Cains...Sorry Knuckles only one of us can have the cup!

The Hurricanes Staal(only ? 21y/o) has got lost in the YG, Crosby and rest of the Rc's mix. But rest assured he'll get some deserved press/Espn time.

    PICK:
Gotta ride the "slick" and go with The Oilers.

Plus, it will help(not sure why???) with Detroits early exit
Sig: Looking for a recent smr magazine, Please pm if you have one to recycle. Thank You

Useless trivia: this is the first time that two ex-WHA teams have met in the Stanley Cup Final.
