Home U.S. Coin Forum

With all of the online coin forums out there.....

Do you find you spend less time reading Coin World, Numismatic News, Coinage, paper auction catalogs
etc.?

I have recycled some coin publications without even reading them, sometimes I will do at least
a brief cursory glance at the headlines and it something catches my eye I might read it but who
has the time anymore to really read them in depth?. I'm way behind on the Numismatist, have them
piled up and maybe some day I will find the time.

  • I don't do numismatic treeware. There's far more timely and relevant data right here in this forum.

There is no question that my interest in the numismatic newspapers has declined since I became involved with this forum. Numismatic News and Coin World both need to beef-up their editorial content. Both papers need to be willing to report on subjects the advertisers don't want talked about. (I don't think this will happen, as both papers appear to be bottom-line operations.)

Yes I find that this forum and other websites in my series provide me the most up to date AND most interesting information. However, I haven't fallen behind on the Numismatist either because I keep that one for good reading on the pot! It gets switched out every month and the majority of the articles that remotely interest me get read image

I don't even bother getting paper. It's hard to find time to make a living with all of the online reading I have to do. image
  • Paper harbors germs. Reading is bad for your eyes.

Except for the occasional freebee at a coin show, I haven't looked at those rags in something like 10 years, back whenever Teletrade started snail mailing their catalogues to me directly. Rarely read The Numismatist either.

I keep the latest issue of the Numismatist in the Throne Room, but aside from that -- nah, don't read any of 'em.

I still read Coin World, both for Coin Values and the articles (not so much the news articles, but the research articles).

I like the dealer "buy" ads, too.

    great question Mich.

I still get my Mint production numbers from Numismatic News, along with all the auctions going on around the country.... I avoid all the ads, still. I do read some editorials and I thumb through the Numismatist, too. I do like to see the supplemental that Jack H Beymer puts in there on the inside page of the monthly price guide. It gives me some different insight.

I like to read the CDN every week , not the price guides, but the front page news.
I just come here to vent.

I try to read at least two pages of the Guide to Counterfeit Detection and Grading each week.
And I like to use my loupe at least two hours per week.
The boards offer a place to learn a lot and the Glossary (Lingo) page on PCGS's website can get me reading for hours.

Just here, two other coin forums, auction websites (when I'm looking to buy), and some auction catalogues.
