Would be interesting if there is documentation available specific to that C reverse. There are three reverses known. Ca (R-3) is the common one on the VAM-3. Cb (R-4) is the Top-50 variety VAM-4 reverse. Cc (R-5), my discovery, was just assigned to VAM-6 by Leroy Van Allen. Naturally, the rarities are best, educated guesses by Leroy, but does have a remarkable track record with relatively few upsets.

My personal observation is that both are equally available but I've only had 9 or 10.

In examining about 30 of these during research for "Renaissance of American Coinage 1916-1921", all had the same sharply cut fourth ray. This suggests the ray was cut into one of the master dies, and was not part of the older master hub. Most of the useful documents vanish after about 1923, so I never found anything in Mint files about the variety.
