Just arrived today. If someone can help link Teletrade auction #2207, Lot#1572. No Dizz. You can't buy it from me. I have seen more ugly coins in NGC holders than any other holders, and I own alot of them. I can't wait to show this coin at the next show. I know the dealers will be jumping over their tables to get at it. What should I ask, $700, $800, $1000?

It's not attractive, but it's hard to find that coin in anything but ho-hum. maybe DizzyFoxx can prove me wrong, but the strikes are so flat and lifeless they're hard to get excited about.

64 is a good grade, though, there's quite a leap in price at the 65 level.

I'm going to have to put a bag over it to get it into the next coin show. There is usually a sign as you enter "NO DOGS ALLOWED".image

I think they were made from compressed used toilet paper.image
  • I have looked at Monroe's and looked at Monroe's and for the life of me I have never been able to tell what the graders look for. I have seen 66's that don't look as good as some 64's. I have an OGH 63 that I have been tempted for ages to break out and resubmit. Like kiyote said they are all flat. I wish someone on this forum could explain what the graders look for on the Monroe.

Actually, I've seen one I think is uglier. A couple of years ago I won an NGC MS64 Monroe on ebay from a poor picture (imagine that). I paid around $195 delivered and thought I had a steal. I picked the coin up at the PO one Friday morning on my way to work. It just happened that was the first day of a local coin show. I meet my wife at the show that afternoon and showed her the coin. We both agreed that was one of the ugliest coins we had seen.

All worked out though as I traded the coin in on a beautifully toned Isabella in NGC MS62. I would love to be able to show a picture on my ugly Monroe but I only had posession of it less than eight hours and it never saw the inside of my house. I figure I got around $250 in trade-in value on it, so I can't complain. image
