Could be somebody thinking upgrade to FBL.

Edit: Just noticed you said it's on Teletrade. That being the case, it's a seller buy back and it'll end up being not sold.

  • Russ....if it is a seller buy back, why is the bid so high?....Doesn't that indicate that soemone was willing to pay over $400.00 to get it that high??

  • Trying to see if I can get the link all by myself, like a big boy!

strong reverse strike, dont know about fbl without seeing it in hand, there must be parties that think it could go fbl though.
great deal @ 500 if it does. there is alot of money out there in the market now.

    IMHO - the Possibilities:

    1. Coin actually selling at this level (based upon scans): 2%

    2. Seller meant to reserve coin at around $60, but typed $600 (or something like that (i.e. error with reserve): 48%

    3. Seller is overly optimistic on the value of their coin and actually desires to receive $500+: 48% (perhaps the same seller who is selling the PR70DC Wash Quarters in the sale tonight with equally optimistic views on the values of those coins as well?)

    4. Other: 2%

    We'll know at 10:05 p.m. Eastern.

    Wondercoin

P.S. Perhaps chance of sale a bit greater than 2% as BUYER may have also desired to bid $60, but bid $600 by accident as well.

No. Teletrade raises the bid even if there is no underbidder at one increment lower.

  • 100proof1957...agreed with your statement of the 'holy grail'...but this is more than moon money if, in fact, they are legit bids...

mcheath, yes, you are right...should it go FBL, it is WAY more than a steal....

well people are willing to spend lots of money on chances. If i had unlimited funds, i would consider buying four of five coins like this for that "moon money" might be worth it if one comes back 65 fbl you are still way on top.

Isn't the 53-S so rare in FBL that "almost there" pieces also command a premium?

Not really. I sold an NGC MS66 a few months ago for a little over $200. Maybe about $30-$40 more than I paid for it and it was extremely well-struck for a 53S.

The Teletrade coin is exceptionally struck for a 53S and didn't sell. If allowed to find it's value in a no reserve auction, I doubt it would go over $100.

Agree- some people think 80-90% FBL should command a premium, and believe if they set the price higyh enough, others may bite.

There was a sin=imilar coin on Heritage with a BIN of 1700, I called to see if it wasa mistake, and should have been 170.

They said it was so close to FBL, and they had submitted it 3-4 times, and were convince it would make it someday.

Nice strike, certainly worth a slight premium, but 98% pregnant doesn't cut it.
