Is this unusual?

I have a 1970 mint set where as the half dollar denver has a good size crack going from the left wing back accross the top of the eagles head onward thru the right wing and half way into the field.Looks just like an earthquake line that is made in the ground.don'y know how better to describe it.The set is still in it's original cellophane.I have pics of it but do not know how to put them up here. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like an outstanding die crack- you can do a search on photo posting tutorials in this forum, and find the info to post some pics- I'd like to see it!

It looks incuse, which would indicate it is a strike-through error. Possibly struck through a thread or a hair.

That coin looks like it has a strike-through, not a die crack. Perhaps a piece of wire or string got between the die and the planchet.

    Nice coin, never-the-less.

Agree. Looks like a strike through.

Die cracks have a raised line on the coin, incuse on the die.

This looks like a strike through, the line is irregular therefore not a scratch.

If you find them please let me know. I offered round trip air fare, rent a car, and hotel accomadations, plus paying to be taught on top of that to anyone to come help and still can't get off the ground.
