The buy, sell Forum should be called the E-bay depot

Just my two cents worth. I Think they should have a seperate forum for e-bay as well as FSH. What do you think? To me e-bay ads are a form of solicitation.

If I wanted to see e-bay I'd go to ebay!

Some people who are leary of ebay might like to know the ebay seller is also a forum member in good standing.
  • I'm not against e-bay per say. I just think it should have it's own forum. I like to check out what other members have for sale here. If that member wants to sell something to another member then maybe he can do that. But I'm not about to get into a bidding war with other bidders from around the world for his coins.

ME too. Stupid to have a place that only refers to another place.

  • I don't really mind it but, please, put "ebay:" or "FSH:" as the first word of the title - then it's easy enough
to bypass the auctions if you choose.

Sometimes, members here have some cool stuff up on ebay. It also helps to include photos and links to
    each individual auction.

If there were separate forums, the new one should be called "Coins for auction" so the posts can include
links to coins at Heritage, ANR, Teletrade, etc.

I don't think it would help much. As long as posters put FA or Ebay in the title, they are easy enough to skip. Some of the Ebay listings give a discount for forum members, so there is a point to it.

Occasionally people will include free shipping or something if you follow a link in the B/S/T forum to their Ebay auctions. I've saved a couple of bucks that way. I tend to appreciate doing business with fellow forum members as well.
I've had great transactions with people like: drwstr123, CCC2010, AlanLastufka, Type2, Justlooking, zas107, StrikeOutXXX, 10point, 66Tbird, and many more!

I occassionally use the BST forum on these message boards to refer members to my ebay auctions.

However, I customarily do so selectively and only when offering "neater" items and collector quality material.

My goal is to allow board members, who in general appreciate such quality, to be made aware of their availability.

Most of such coins being offered in this manner on ebay are "fresh" to the market having been placed in my collection 25 years ago or earlier ( and "slabbed" with the past several years ).

I appreciate the opportunity to alert the serious collectors here, and hope they might feel likewise.

    Best regards,

    Richard

    ebay ID: ckamph01

( no coins being offered presently )

  • I find it a bit redundant to read that a forum member has such and such up on eBay, if I collected that particular coin I would probably know it already as I do a keyword search a couple times a day.

I fully support the forum otherwise for sales between members, the FSH listings.

  • I figure that if you give me ten bucks, you can post a FSH and a FA-ebay once a week, and a daily ttt for an extra fin.

Otherwise, well I like knowing who's selling/auctioning what. I might be interested in an ebay item here and there. I would prefer to buy from someone I know from the Circle of Trust.... If such a thing existed. image

I think the set up as it is works well. Most listers do put in FSH and/or Ebay in their titles.
Have bought and sold quite a few coins on there, latest about a hour ago.

a lot of us like the auction format and wish to see what the
market will bear for a coin. i use it so others here know who
    i am on ebay.

I agree that a separate ebay forum would be better. I don't visit the the BST anymore because I got annoyed with wading through pages of ebay listings. If I wanted to see ebay listings, I would go to ebay. Just my opinion.

I agree with solid - as long as the thread title has "ebay" for ebay listings and "FSH" (for sale here) or the equivalent for coins being offered directly via the BST forum, I'm OK with it. That makes it possible to avoid reading the ebay threads if you want.

What annoys me is the members who don't participate here at all except for advertising their ebay auctions for free on BST. I wouldn't want someone new to think "Oh, that person has been a member here for years, they must be trustworthy"- when in reality all they have done is use free advertising for years. There are times I've researched prior posts from someone who had something interesting on BST, and if that's the only place they have posted, I don't assume anything special in the way of reliability. But there's no rule against it, so I can live with that.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

So what? Is it that hard to skip threads that say "for sale on Ebay"?

Generally, I appreciate it when Forum members are given

first shot at coins, before they go to E-Bay.
