What's wrong with this picture? Only 1 bidder yet he has to pay his highest bid? (Huh)??

This is a new one on me. Look under Bids and you will see that throughout, there has only been one bidder. So how is it he has to pay his top bid instead of his lowest if no one else bid? image

  • i dont think too many of us are awake lol....i got a bit of a sunburn today doing yard work so i cant go to sleep just yet LOL.

was there a reserve that he had to meet? otherwise why and how could he trump his own bids>

It is just an artifact on how the bid trail is logged on eBay. That bidder put in a bid of $10 or more. Everytime another bidder bid an amount below his maximum bid and confirmed, they were given a message that they were outbid and that bid was assigned to the still current high bidder.

The only way I can think of is a computer glitch not showing a reserve met sign after it was met.

This would be a good one to ask e-bay tech support and include the auction number. I have actually gotten inteligent responses from time to time.

This makes perfect sense but I thought the underbidder still at least gets the name posted for attempting the bid, especially if the high bidder backs out, then it would automatically go to the under bidder?

    Nope...I don't think so.

If I bid $10 max and it starts at $0.99 and I am the first bidder, my bid is $0.99.

Then, you come and bid $2.75 or something. My max is above that, so my name still shows with the new max. So on and so forth.... 5 bids total it says.

I'm sorry fellas, but I don't get it at all. I don't believe someone would have placed a $10 reserve on an item that he could have just as well started at $9.99.

Look at the bid history and see that no one else bid. Everytime this guy bid the computer had him trumping himself when in all actuality he should have won this coin at the lowest bid because there was no one else involved. Freaky. image

i think there was a reserve that disappeared.
the buyer was simply bumping it up until it was gone?

i am unsure. just a guess.

Since his bids were actually on different times/days, I don't think it was the computer bumping him without anyone else......
I would go with the "freaky artifact" theory

must have been reserved, notice that the other auctions the seller has going state "no reserve" in the titles.

With all due respect, a $10 reserve on an item such as this makes absoluely no sense whatsoever. $20 is AU money on a 32...a TRUE, problem free AU, that is.

If the seller is that goofy (which I highly doubt) it cost way more this way than had he listed with an opening price of $9.99.

I see no signs of any bids having been retracted or reserves having been lowered. It's just one of those things that makes us say, image
  • yep, buyer fishing to meet the reserve
