Help with 1878-P 7/8 Morgan VAM

Doubling of cotton bolls and leaf.
Strong doubling of LIBERTY.
Any ideas?

I'd like to say it's VAM 38 7/8TFs strong, but the doubled cotton bolls aren't supposed to be there.
    When in doubt, don't.

I think it is VAM-38. The obverse is a II/I one. With the large shift in LIBERTY, one would expect doubling evident in the cotton blossoms and leaves even if it isn't documented or commonly observed. Neat in any event. Wish I had moore 7/8TF ones around. I think theonly strong ones that are handy are VAM-40 and VAM-39, though I think that one is on the cusp. I'll look at VAMa 31, 33, 40 and 43 since they all have II/I obverses just to see if there is a minute doubling in the cotton.

    That's a V-38.

Looks like Vam 38 to me but I would think the double cotton boll would have been noted. I would send the photos to Leroy if htis were mine.

  • I looked at the one messy desk and PCGS attributed for me and it matches yours. I took a couple quick close ups with the QX5 of the cotton bols.

  • Thank you every one! I'll mark it VAM 38.
