Heres a cool half dime error!

mepotmepot Posts: 585 ✭✭✭
Bought this on ebay while filling my 7070 type set.Forgot about it until today, going through some odd stuff.

Appears to be a mint-made error. The green stuff is not hardly noticable in hand.

What do you call this error, double struck,??.Anybody have any other error pics?

That is pretty cool. I do recommend dealing with that green stuff, though.

This coin has a good color, will acetone take the green and leave the color,or will it turn it white?

Acetone gently applied with a q-tip should remove the green PVC gunk. Cool error.

Neat coin. Acetone should clean that up and leave the color.
I think if you edit this thread and put "cool half dime error" in the title you may get someone like Fred or Mike to look at this and give their expert opinions.

Am I the only one who thinks that being a Mint Error is about the last thing this coin is? Severely damaged and mutilated, yes. Error? I don't think so.

No offense but in my opinion that is post mint damage. The clip does not has the blakesly effect on the opposite side of the coin and the brockage would be from another coin being hammered into it. Of course that is just my take of the coin.image

Looks torn then hammered with another coin. I know nothing about errors, but that's what my eyes tell me.

The half-dime is not a genuine error, but
    damaged/altered in a few ways............

  • I know nothing about the series, but did get 'taken' on the bay for a Washington quarter just like this, without the 'bite' taken out of it. Was hard to tell with the image, but upon getting it, same as that one...flattened the non 'double struck' side where the coins met, smooth. Again, not an expert at all, especially with the series, but the 'diagnostics' (from the flattening on one side) on yours and the Washington I had are very similar.

    I agree. Not an error.

Not fake, just mutilated. If coins could talk, that half dime could tell its story around a campfire to scare the kids.
