Home Trading Cards & Memorabilia Forum

Just wanted to say hey!

I am new to the forum. I collect vintage football primarily 48-55 bowman and early topps issues...buy and sell on ebay too......much...much... more buying than selling! Live in Cleveland. I have collected cards since late 70's. Now that my son is 5 years old, I want to start getting him into the hobby. Since I collect football, I began buying baseball for him.....figuring my football collection will be his one day anyway. Every year I buy him a graded card for his birthday. First birthday was a SGC 80 Nolan Ryan Rookie, 2nd birthday was a PSA 5 1948 Bob Feller, 3rd birthday was a SGC 80 1953 Yogi Berra, 4th birthday was a PSA 9 Cal Ripken Rookie, and last years birthday was a 1973 PSA 7 Roberto Clemente. Of course he really doesn't know anything about these cards yet....the only card that would mean anything to him now would be a Spongebob rookie! When he is older and can appreciate them, I will unveil the collection to him. I am still looking for the right card for his 6th birthday in August. Any suggestions as to what I buy him this year?

Welcome to the boards. Buy him a Stan Musial card or an Al Kaline card. Some pretty good number 6s.

  • Welcome to the boards. Although you'll see some bickering and such on this board, it really is a nice group forum. I'm probably the youngest guy in this thread at 20 years old but eh oh well. Well, I'd suggest maybe a Harmon Killabrew or Stan Musial. Both are really really undervalued at this time, for reasons beyond my knowledge(All I can think of is where they played).

I collect Gem Mint rookies of basically all sports but I prefer Yankees, NY Giants, NJ Nets, NJ Devils and other NY teams rookies. I recently picked up a SGC 98 Topps Tim Brown(WR, Raiders) rookie not to long ago for my PC. eBay is chock full of deals.
    Collecting;
    Mark Mulder rookies
    Chipper Jones rookies
    Orlando Cabrera rookies
    Lawrence Taylor
    Sam Huff
    Lavar Arrington
    NY Giants
    NY Yankees
    NJ Nets
    NJ Devils
1950s-1960s Topps NY Giants Team cards

Looking for Topps rookies as well.

Hey, BigDaddy. Glad to see another "old-time" collector active in the hobby. What lawnmowermanswife said above is TOO true. I'm having a hard time not getting excited about adding to my collection when I see the items the mailman delivers every day. Plus I found the ideal way to bid on auctions by getting signed up with JustSnipe.com. It's a great support system (read "enablers"!) we have on these forums!

I really admire what you're doing for your son. I've got a 3-month old granddaughter. Maybe I should start a collection for her! See, you're an enabler already, too!

Have fun...that's what it's all about...

I would buy a nice card from his birthyear. So, if he's 5, he may have been born in 2001? How about the Pujols Topps Traded Rookie.

Or you could buy a guy who wore the number of his age, if he's six buy him a Musial, when he turns seven buy him a Mantle.
