Poll-What should we do with the lincoln cent after 2009?

Hello, the 200th anniversary of the birth of Abraham Lincoln is coming in 2009. I think that the mint already has some plans for the Lincoln cent for 2009. But is the cent really necessary?

  • the other day at checkout my change included 4 cents. she asked "do you want the pennies?" as if they were a
hindrance. i could see if it was one or two, maybe even three. This was 4. Just one shy of a full nickel. image

Thanks to many years of inflation, the cent has become near worthless. Let's stop wasting money making them.

Personally I think the cent should be discontinued. The President dollar legislation mandates that if the cent is continued after 2009 the reverse should be an image symbolic of Lincolns attempt to hold the union together. Sounds like quite a big goal for such a small coin.

With the rising metals cost th cent hould be discontinued for circulation and be mint and Proof set only until the 2009 commems are through, then discontinued completely.
