Comparing Players in Different Sports

My son and I started this discussion tonite....thought it was interesting and would share it with you and see if you guys had any other examples.

Bledsoe is to NFL, what Glavine is to MLB. Both are piling up cumulative career stats, both have been to either the WS or SB. Both played in the same era.

Im interested in what if any comparisons you could make for guys like, Bart Starr or Unitas? Or Marino. When you look at the relative value of FB to BB cards, well, there isnt a lot in common. Even more interesting are players like Lawrence Taylor or Mean Joe Green. HoF guys.

As a side note, is it generally excepted that Topps production of NFL cards were less than same year MLB? Significanly Less? The Same?

Thanks guys

Ryan

I think what you are doing can start some interesting discussions about player's careers. However, when you get to the point of one person being in the baseball hall of fame and the other being in the football hall of fame you must be careful. Baseball likes to elect compilers into thier hall of fame while Football seems to take into account the "greatness" of the player. For example, Vinny Testaverde will probably never make it to the Football hall of fame even though a lot of his stats are superior to those in the hall, he just doesnt have the "greatness" associated with his career. Just my opinion.

    Interesting...

Short players: Freddie Patek and Spud Webb

Nothing outstanding but played for quite a while as pros.

How about Lawrence Taylor and Dennis Eckersly? I figure each player changed the importance and role of their position while they played. Both HoF. Defensive players, like Releif Pitchers, get a smaller amount of respect.
