  • Richardson's magneto-galvanic Batteries. I've seen these come up from time to time. Supposedly the bi-metallic makeup combined with the sweat from your skin was supposed to create some kind of electric current that kept you healthy.

Even now, people still wear copper bracelets and sports bands with a magnet inside. Just as effective.

There are quite a few different of this kind of thing. They get a lot of interest
since a lot of doctors collect this kind of thing.

  • About a year ago I saw a Boyd's Battery in a slab. I think it was NGC, which would make sense because there is a thread about them across the street. Wish I could find the link...

I remember seeing that in a slab also although I don't remember who slabbed it. Yes it is round and maybe it resembles a coin or token but its use was never intended as such. Such things may be accepted by those who believe that it is but I for one do not. image

Are these considered "So Called Dollars"? Are they listed in the H-K book?

They are considered tokens because of the patent dates 1880 and 1881. -Dan

Yes they are listed in Rulau1700-1900 United States Tokens under Gay Nineties-Mavericks and considered a medical amulet. It is not listed in HK So Called Dollars. Interesting item but to me not a token as it wasn't originally issued as such but what do I know. image
