One of the dealers just reported this...

"TO ALL.....NEW WRINKLE.....ONE OF MY GUYS BOUGHT THREE ABUSED SILVER EAGLES FROM A GAL YESTERDAY OVER THE COUNTER. ALL 3 CAST COUNTERFEITS, ASSUME OUT OF MEXICO."

    Anyone else come across these? I'd imagine that any beat up ASE would be out of the ordinary and therefore attract attention.

    More likely they came out of China. They counterfeit everything over there. Some even have the fantasy date 1906!!!

    Yep....I got one of those that my friend bought for me on a business trip that he thought was real....good thing he only paid ~$3 US .... I was sad to burst his bubble as he was so happy for the cool gift to me.
    (this was from Hong Kong)

    I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

    I've run across not only the cast Silver Eagles but also Ike Dollars as well. The Eagles come in various dates (some even pre-1986), and the Ike's are all 1971-D.

    Typical washed out castaway look and underweight, with the usual dull thud when dropped on a hard surface.

    At least some of these are imports from (where else) China, as I've seen street vendors in San Francisco and New York selling them for anywhere from 50 cents to a dollar or more.

    In compliance with the Chinese Hobby Protection Act, the coins are marked with the work "COPY" in invisible ink between the 66th and 67th reed on the edge of the coin. image

    I just wrote the dealer that got them in and asked if he would send me out one to inspect and scan.

    This eBay auction has one of the Counterfeit Silver Eagles.

    The Ike's are of similar quality and workmanship.

    Even fake common Morgan, Peace and Ike dollars...all from China. Of couse, ebay would rather hassle legitimate US dealers, since Meg Whitman's stock option bonuses depend on growth in countries known for scams...

    Looks like 1905 to me.

    Still messed up though.
    Always looking for attractive rim toned Morgan and Peace dollars in PCGS or (older) ANA/ANACS holders!
