The high and low of playing the crack out game

I recently acquired two sweet coins, a 1942-S Walker NGC 64 and a 1934-S Peace NGC MS-62. Both worthy of an upgrade, so I decided to play the crackout game.
Sent both in for walkthrough grading hoping that the limited time would see the plus.
The walker was the joy as it now sits in an NGC MS-65 holder. Nice gain over the 64 value, however, the 34-S Peace came back in a MS-61 holder. Almost enough to make me cry.
Both coins were submitted raw.
Since I bought both coins "right", there is still room to try the crossover to PCGS.
Does anyone feel that the walkthrough is better for coins that sit on the bump? Or is the regular crossover about the same odds?

For a coin of that type and value, I don't think it makes any difference, odds-wise. Either way, I must ask, why would you even consider spending $100 on a crossover of a coin that is valued (only) in the $500 range?
Each look by PCGS or NGC is just one data point. It says nothing conclusively about a coin's grade. It's an estimate at a point in a time, no more, no less. Yet, by many who buy and trade labels
(I'm as guilty as anyone), the one point is often considered to be
the final say.

The fact that you already got an up-grade doesn't mean it's financially prudent to spend roughly 25% of the coin's current value on an additional grading/cross-over fee.
IT IS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY!

Walkthrough submissions aren't always graded looser than a standard submission. Walkthrough grading is often much stricter than any other service tier.

I'm always amazed by the willingness of collectors to give pcgs large sums of money with little benefit in return.....
