Any gold counterfeits?

ledzep87ledzep87 Posts: 1,108 ✭✭✭
I am interested in the gold $2 1/2, $5, and $10 Indians. Does anyone know if there are counterfeits of these designs and how I could tell the difference between a fake and real one? Thanks!
Great transaction with: Relaxn, Collectorcoins, OKCC

    Yes lots of counterfeits...

Im not much good at picking em out...as some are very difficult.

Best rule of thumb is that if it looks off, then it most likely is.

Id stick with Graded pieces if your really interested in collecting. That way youll be safer.

I have one of each of these coins and they are all PCGS graded.....

These are about the most counterfeited coins there are,so go graded and don't look back.....

They are out there ... here's a book that can help you pick them out: PCGS Grading/Counerfeit Geide

It takes a lot of time and practice to identify counterfeits. Your best bet is to take a couple of classes sometimes put on by the ANA. Sometimes local coins shops store these until they have enough to melt. If your shop is good they will bring these out and go over why they tagged each one as counterfeit.

Both of these take so much time and effort that the real best bet is to just buy them already slabbed in PCGS, NGC or ANACS. There are other slabbed versions from many more slabbing companies but I would check out reviews of their services before wasting money on them.

In the end the easy solution is stick with the big three TPG's especially since you can purchase coins for a small premium over what they are going for RAW.
