To the people who complain...

about people who post here on this board the cards they have for sale. First it does not bother me one bit. If someone posts here a card that I have been looking for, for a very long time I would be very happy to see that post. I am sure the ones who complain would be very happy also to see a seller has the card they have been looking for. I don't see the problem. More of us check this board first and if the seller has a very sort after card for sale, it is first come first served.image

i agree.. i dont mind it too much.. i just dont open the thread if its not something im interested in..

it could get irritating if it turned into a mostly-spam forum, but i dont mind seeing some now & then for decent stuff..

Some people only seem to post here with their spam............ ( I am one who complains)

Then there are the spammers who use ALL the message boards and type only in capital letters!!!!

...but this is OK?????? How about every third message!! would that be OK?????

    Where does it end????

I totally agree - especially if it's a regular contributor who has some stuff he "knows" will be of value to other board members.

Here's the problem - as illuminated by Pandrews - many people don't have the time to wade thru the threads that 'turn out' to be purely spam - they're not always explicit in the thread title.

It would be better, perhaps, if all the top threads were things we wanted to read and contribute towards.

Having said this - I never saw the spam as a major problem here and if it were, I would imagine with a well placed email, the problem could be fixed - threads have been moved in the past.

I've been gone - is spam a problem here now?

There are already two trading and selling message boards on this site. As such, I feel that anyone who posts an advertisement is showing disrespect to the board. It also flies in the face to those who play by the rules.

I've seen forums degenerate into buy/sell spam fests over time, if you allow those posts to overtake the discussion posts. For that reason, there are two seperate forums for people looking to buy, and people looking to sell. That's where those posts should go - simple as that.

Absolutely! There is a big difference between the post that blandly advertises about ones "new listings on e-bay" and the post about something very specific that the poster knows will be of interest to somebody who frequents this forum.

Spam is the number one canned food in Hawaii!!
Orioles cards from 1960 to today.

    Be good my brothers.
  • Slendersplinter, Living here in Hawaii I know what you say about SPAM is the totally true. I could not believe the popularity of this product here when I first moved here 22 years ago. They have so many different ways to prepare SPAM you would not believe.image

As for this topic, I appreciate and respect all the opinions expressed. My main thing is as long it does not get out of hand I have no problem.image

Very true. Although as you demonstrated in Greg's post on the Set Registry boards you're still compelled to complain about those as well.

If you allow one person to do it, you have to let everyone. Then the forum dissolves into another BST forum.

There are forums dedicated specifically to advertising. This isn't one of them.

I don't have a problem with it from a regular contributor or from someone who's new that genuinely doesn't know that its frowned upon at times. I think may people, lostdart is among them, are way too harsh on new guys that do this. I think we may lose some potential contributors because their first encounter was so negative.

This thread however, I have a problem with. I was glad to see no one respond and the thread just sank and is on page 3 now. This guy obviously has a separate agenda being his id is his website and he's a dealer and doesn't post other than to tell us his "specials." This guy should get poounded as opposed to the new guy that just doesn't know the way of the board.
