Does this label look funny??

imageimage

This font looks very odd to me.

Edit: The original reason I brought this up was that in comparison to this Conseco, they have the same style flip, I believe, with the rounded corners and the wider margins on the font, the font on the Larkin is different, though the same style flip.

It was a font that PSA used for a very short period of time in the 2002/2003 timeframe

This is where a little common sense goes a long way: If someone's going to forge a flip they aren't going to do it for a 1997 Barry Larkin, and even if they did they sure a hell aren't going to give the card a 9.

Wow, you guys are tuff today!

Stingman may have had a momentary lapse - but I can beat that hands down!

Yesterday I call my office to tell them my starter motor must be out.

I go back into the truck and am looking around and thinking...I got no indication that it was going bad...then I notice the blinking light - for the first time in 9 years of owning the truck, I forgot to press the disabling switch on the car alarm!!!!!!!!

    Now that's worth a laugh!

I can beat that. At least 3 times a year I 'lose' my keys, and begin the frantic search to find them, only to discover that they're hanging from my index finger.

I know it sounds too stupid to be true, but honest to God I do it a minimum of once every four months.

I really was not thinking of what the card was, just thought that the font looked different then any I had seen before??

Yes - it is different, and, as I indicated originally, it is something PSA used a few years ago for a few months.

PSA at one point even had a "decoder" type thing by which to judge the authenticity of a PSA-graded card...

i have noticed those labels w/ a couple of really nice 1969 topps cards on e-bay this year. There was a psa 9 nolan ryan that had that older label and sold for $1000 versus a regular-slabbed label psa 9 ryan that sold for over $1200. I have no problems buying the "other" slabbed cards, as they are usually somewhat discounted.

There has been mention that initially some psa grading standards could've possibly been more lenient towards grading, thus justifying the lower selling prices for the "other" labelled cards.

Julen - just to be clear, that font listed on the Larkin card is from 4-5 years ago. PSA has been grading for about 15 years now, so that font certainly does not represent PSA's original grading standards. Not to mention that PSA will put any 'old font' holders in a new holder with the current font for free, without regrading the card...
