Is "unreal" the same as fake?
ps...has Laura made an offer on her yet? ;D
Hell, I don't need to exercise.....I get enough just pushing my luck.
Will it fit in the Dansco gold page?
I'd love to see anything in 67 or 68 (or 69).
So stunning . . . . . .

That's why professionals don't grade off an image.

If you have the jack to seriously consider buying a coin like this, you're not going to buy it based on an image. You'll either fly out to see the coin yourself or hire someone whose eye you trust to personally inspect it on your behalf.
However, if luck smiles on me, I would love to be able to put together a type set of Cameo Proofs from the early 20th and late 19th century, including gold. Seeing Cameo Proof gold coins like the one pictured in this post is a treat and keeps me interested in the hobby.

Think it got the standard 45 seconds? (or whatever it is for silver Eagles)
The 1873 closed 3 $20 proof in aluminum pattern is even more lovely!!!! I like the design of Liberty on the obverse much more before Charles (possibly William) Barber ruined it in 1877!!!!!
Do you own this coin or is it on consignment?

Now, if coinace; Dean and Dave were to have a giveaway of that 1873 pattern then I would agree that this thread should be moved!!!
The detail you can see in her hair is breathtaking.- No spaghetti hair there...
I want that coin, but do not want to sell the house and kids for her.

Just imagine if he starts adding a couple of circulation strikes to his set?
If anyones ever seen what completely original 19th century proof gold looks like before they go through the dealers hands, they're not supposed to look like a 2006 proof gold eagle. I think someone should explain that to NCS, but perhaps NGC won't 'DCAM' them until they've been stripped..........but what the heck do I know?
<< <i>Very scarce piece in superb condition but from that pic it looks like one of those NCS conservation jobs to me.

When I look at their website, I think the same thing -- all those images of 19th Century proof gold have the same look as PF69 DCAM GAEs!! Shouldn't most of these coins have some toning or color after 100 to 150 years?
They don't necessarily have to be toned or colored, but nearly every original proof gold piece I've seen will have a nice light haze or film to the fields and devices to a lesser extent. I'm referring to original coins that come out of very old time collections or estates.
Of course once they make it into the dealers hands and get conserved, lasered, dipped out, and whatever else they do to them, they don't even look like the same coins anymore. But the goal is not to preserve or have a beautiful original coin, but rather to get it into the highe$t grade piece of pla$tic with the be$t de$ignation.
