Collectors internet

Has anyone purchased coins from them in bulk, I'm thinking of buying a bulk lot and wanted some input before doing so.

Thanks in advance Tom

  • I believe that they are the same people that were once called "BeverlyHills Coin Club" on ebay. If they are, stay far away from them!! They overgrade and basically are not truthful in their dealings. JMHO from experience.image

Well tey are part of the Beverly Hills Coin Club, and are/were involved with ACCGS slabbing service. I don't know about their wholesale lots but I went to check out their "Order by date & grade" section to see what they had available. They have their lists and they say to just go ahead and order by mail and not to call because they don't have the coins there, they are all down at the bank. Don't worry they have an extensive inventory and multiples of most items. Naturally I looked at the large cents.

I see he has 10 grades of 1794 Starred reverse listed up through AU-50. Well if he actually had that many he would own 20% of all the known specimens. And an AU-50? The finest known is a stripped recolored XF-40 and there are only five known VF or better.

He lists 6 grades for the 1795 reeded edge cent. Which is REALLY good since there are only four known specimens. There are other "impossible" listings as well. Obviously what he plans if to take and hold your money for awhile while he tries to locate the coin you ordered. Then either send it on or eventually return your money with a Sorry sold out" xpalination.

imageI wanted to put togethter complete mint sets
in 63-65 from the years 37-64.I sent the money in and
didn't hear or get anything for 2 months.A walker set came
in from 37-47 in a Dansco with nice coins with postage due.
Another week went by,so I Emailed them about the rest.
3 days later, a Willis person answered and said the Franklins
would arrive in about a week.3 weeks went by and a set came
in a Whitman and they were supposed to be MS 65 with 95%
full bell lines. The worse coin was the 49D which was weak and
hairlined and cost $800+.I Emailed them complaining and sent
back about 12 of the coins for replacement. This pompous arrogent
Willis replied saying any coin looks bad in certain lighting but would replace them
Another couple of weeks went by and some were replaced, saying
the rest of the stuff was still on back order.

Eventually I got everything after numerious returns and long waits.I really
think they get the order then hunt for the coins.Looking at their ad,
it would put the Eliasberg collection to shame.

To cut this short, overgraded, overpriced junk.

  • Thanks for the information, for now I think I'll pass on buying from them---Tom

Having bought from them in the past, they Emailed
a promotion where I could save 10% off on most
of their items.A bulk lot of lower grade circulated
coins may work out OK.I imagine if you Emailed
that Willis, you might be able to strike a better deal
    than their advertised prices ??????????????
  • Thier in my jurisdiction, maybe I;ll stop by and talk face to face and see what response I get as It's always easier to read someone talking face to face---Tomimage
