Crossover Double Dies back after 3 Months

Received my submission back today from the PCGS graders after a 3 month wait.
Date Received 2-24-2006
Date Shipped 5-19-2006
Although it was a long wait , I was happy with the results. All but one coin crossed
at the same grade. These Double Dies won't be in any of the local registry sets but
have been added to Varieties in the Collectors Society Varities Signature SET across the
street. Have added Photo's as well to the Set of the new coins.

Coins Graded:
1980-P DDO Lincoln Cent MS63 BN originally Anacs MS63BN
1997-P DDO Double Ear MS-64 RED orginally PCI 64 RED
1972-P DDO#2 Lincoln Cent MS-65 RED originally SEGS 65 RED
1972-P DDO#4 Lincoln Cent MS-65 RED originally SEGS 65 RED
1972-P DDO#8 Lincoln Cent MS-65 RED originally SEGS 65 RED
1972-P DDO#9 Lincoln Cent MS-64 RED originally SEGS 64 RED
1972-P DDO#3 Lincoln Cent MS-64 RED SEGS DNC nice coin but had a major hit on the rim.

I have the other 1972 DDO#5,6,7 in SEGS holders as well but haven't sent them in for crossover
grading as of yet. Have looked at a lot of 1972 cents in trying to obtain these pieces. Have to
publicly thank Gary Shaffstall for my major find the 1972DDO#4 and the DDO#5. He sent these
to me as a 5 and 7 but upon examination the 7 was definitely a 4. Also special thanks to Dave
at "The Collectors Friend", purchased the Die 2 and 8 from him. I've thanked them before when
I received the coins, but sometimes a Public THANK YOU is more meaningful to truly be
appreciated. Even though the wait was 3 months I still have to say PCGS is still the Top Dog on
the Third Party Grading experience. image

Excuse me Mike for saying this, but anyone who calmly admits to owning a 1972 DDO # 4…SUCKS! Or maybe I should be politically correct and just say I am envious.

I didn't realize that PCGS graded all the different DDO varieities.

Do they label them as such? I saw a 72 DDO that was not the big one, and it was just labeled DDO. Customer was taken for a ride and paid the big ticket dollars for a non big ticket DDO. THought that was rather poor of PCGS part, unless they just missed it, which I doubt.

I'm surprised you didn't pop for TrueView photos as these double dies show up well when photo'ed by PCGS out of the holder.

    Neat coins, by the way.

RbinTex, yes the DDO#4 had the rim cud at the Left side of the coin. That's how I knew that it had
to be the Die 4 and not the die 7 that I received it as. At that time I sent it to SEGS and they agreed
and sent it back as such. Wasn't even thinking when I sent them in to get them Photographed. The
last batch that I sent in will get photographed. Will start using the service as their Photo's are awesome.
My photo's have much to be desired. image Thanks for all the responses. Have a great Memorial Weekend.
    Mike.

Segoja, The slabs have the Fivaz- Stanton Number on the holder that tells which coin has been
graded for Variety Verification. The1972 Die 1 coin only has Double Die Obverse on the slab and
not the FS Number. That is the only difference between the different Die Varieties for that
year. When obtaining the Original Die 1 always look for that on the Slab. To many collectors have
been dupped thinking they are purchasing the real thing. Paying big money always ask if it is the
Die 1 coin. The best source for any and all collectors is "The Cherrypickers Guide" to rare Die Varieties
by Bill Fivaz and JT Stanton. This is how I knew the die 7 that I received was truly a die 4. Hope
    this has helped. Mike.
