You do realize that some of the cool coins at Stack's were slabbed, don't you?

The 'Consignment Kettering' included a bunch of tasty early type in really old PCGS and NGC holders - including the Garrett 1795 Flowing Hair Dollar in a 1989 PCGS AU55 holder, some beatiful stuff in NGC fatties, etc.

Of course, since it was a Stack's auction you really wouldn't want to bid on stuff like that.

What's this "Stack's" thingy to which you are incessantly referring? image

Actually, in a previous lifetime when I recognized Stack's existence, I did notice a smattering of certified coins amongst their offerings. The Milas Collection of No Motto Half Eagles, including many finest knowns, was offered by Stack's in 1995 and the whole collection was slabbed. image

I thought the 1795 Garrett was pretty cool in person - what did it go for??

The coin I liked best was the Libertas Americana obverse splasher.

The Garrett '95 went for $67,500 hammer to a collector's agent.
