For proof large cents, what is the difference between a squared rim and a dished rim proof?

I was looking at some large cents (proof), and I am wondering about the difference between squared rim proofs and dished rim proofs. What accounts for the differnces in the rims?

1854 N-12 R2 PROOF 60+ SQUARED RIM

Brown with a few splashes of faded red. Hard reflective surfaces. Broad squared rim with a full sharp strike. Unlike the often encountered "dished" rim proofs. This is clearly an authentic proof example. Every star and dentil sharply impressed. Was in a NGC holder PF63BN.
