Rookie's First Submission Results

I have been collecting for less than a year and lurking here for about six months. I never respond to posts because I have nothing to contribute, being new at this hobby.

I would like to take the time to thank the members here for sharing their vast knowledge. I have learned more than I ever expected. The informative posts are always appreciated.

Now to the submission.......I submitted 8 coins that I purchased raw on.......dare I say......ebay.
I was afraid to send them in because of the comments posted here about buying raw coins on ebay. I had already purchased these prior to finding this site so I figured that I could use the grading information to further my education. I am still learning how to grade on my own. I was actually pretty close on a couple and way off on others. I was actually pleased that 75% of them slabbed.

What do you guys think......any input will be welcomed (good or bad). I can take it but please be gentle.

By the way, once artificial color is added to a coin, can it be removed without damaging the coin?

Hard to say that your results are good or bad unless we know what your expectations were and how the coins were represented on eBay. 2 bodybags out of 8 on raw eBay coins seems pretty favorable.

As for removing artificial color, any attempts to remove it from copper will probably leave signs of such an attempt.

In general, silver yes, copper no.

Good job on your first gradings! I especially like the 1942/1 Mercury dime. I just bought one in the same PCGS grade, so I fully appreciate how valuable they are.

One thing to keep in mind about artificial color: It has sometimes been put there to hide evidence of cleaning.
    When in doubt, don't.

Don't worry; as your experience and confidence grow, you'll start responding more. We all started out as newbies!

P.S. Pretty darn good start, but still be very careful buying raw, especially on ebay!

    That's never stopped me.
  • Valid points. It is impossible to tell how I did without more information.

If I get time, I will add more info to the post.

I do have a picture of the IHC.......
