Need some friendly advice on Silver Eagle Proof Set

I've just started collecting coins and I've been buying various things. I've learned a few things. Like I bought a Platinum Eagle this year and it's possibly the ugliest thing I ever saw, however, I want the 3 year set so I'll learn to live with it.
I have however, fallen head over heels in love with the American Silver Eagles and I'm eyeing a set from 86 to the present. I recently bought a 96 Prestige Proof Set from the same place I'm looking at this set from and it was PERFECT.
I'm looking at about $1300 or so which isn't the problem. 20 into 1300 goes about 65 average per coin. Without doing a bunch of research I note that some coins go for less and some for a bit more. I don't yet know the ins and outs of the Silver Eagle.
Is it possible for me to buy most of them cheaply and build a set then be patient looking for the more desirable and expensive? Okay, sure it's possible but will I end up spending about this and lets not forget that 20 shipping costs adds up quickly as well.
Another thing very important to me is quality. I don't want to have 20 Mint velvet boxes with 5 of them looking like they were chewed on by a St. Bernard.
I trust this place based on my last purchase and I think I'll get good stuff.
And I don't care if the bottom falls out of silver and the price crashes dramatically. This collection will be a keeper.

Never view my other linked pages. They aren't coin related.
Re: your silver eagles...they are very nice and very affordable. They do have a problem with "milk spots" and there doesn't seem to be any prevention or cure. Look up milk spots on the forum threads and you will get a general idea of the situation. It may be best to buy them slabbed from a tpg that will provide you with some sort of guarantee that it will hold the grade. I have found that the proofs don't seem to get the milk spots (maybe I just got lucky) but the raw ones do seem to have the milk spots. The milk spots permanently damage the coin but I think you can dip the stuff away but I haven't done it because of philosophical orientation. They make a nice set when you get them all together.
If you can get them all for $1300.00, that not a great deal, but a fair price, in my opinion. If you want to take the time to pick them
off in smaller numbers, you can probably do a little better.
Also .. I agree with you , they look great ! Don't worry about the "milk spot" issue, that only relates to slabbed uncircs.
These appear on the proofs as well.
