check this idiot out! He's using my scan in attempt to make a quick $3,000

I'm new here, so I have not figured out the linking thing as of yet. However, check the completed auctions. I currently have a Pujols Bowman Chrome card on ebay and this idiot has stolen my picture twice. I notified the first buyer and he backed out of the deal. Come to find out, this seller tried it a second time. I just emailed the buyer of thisd auction and ebay.
The completed auctions are #8816906228 and #8816831490. Even though the seller is an idiot, the buyers are also stupid for not doing some research before they buy.
The bottom line......
If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is a fraud~!~

As far as I'm concerend, any buyer willing to drop $3,000 down on anything would do some research before he does. If these buyers would have done a little research they would have realized that my card and this other dudes are the same card. Plus, if I'm going to spend $3,000 on this card, I would like to see a scan of the back which contains the serial number.

  • Since I just accepted an offer for my auction, I went ahead and sent an email to the bad seller (I didn't want to do so before I accepted an offer because I would have been riskiing him taking revenge by hitting the buy it now on my auction for the sole purpose of leaving negative feedback. I generally make all of my buy it now auctions "pay for it now" ones, but since this the buy it now for this auction was over $2,000, it wasn't an option). Needless to say, the email I sent this dude wasn't too darn nice.

  • So you ended up not getting it graded Rich......what the heck happened on the other board for you to assume a vacation(temp or perm)?
  • Hey Rich,

I had the same problem as you did.

After I saw the photo they stole from me I went in and changed the photo that they stole from me.

I did some photo shop work on the stolen photo and wrote...

Buy one and get one free.

Who ever looked at the listing thought they were getting two items for the price of one.

You can still report them to ebay, even though the listing has ended.

Good reason to host your own photos and take them down as soon as the auction ends.

Scum like this is why I end up watermarking all of my scans with my eBay ID now, even for low end cards.

Thats a great idea, what program do you use to do that and how?

P.S. I feel like an idiot for asking that question, but its late and I am too tired to try to figure it out right now image

I use a different program, but it does the same thing.

Plus, the listing service I use gives me the option of trying to "protect" my image by making it harder for someone to save it to their PC. It's easily defeated, but it's an attempt.

    "buy 1 get 1 free."

    thats so funny.
  • Good morning guys:
I received a reply back from the bad seller. He claims that he is on vacation and that his brother must be the person trying to scam people. He has asked me not to report him to ebay. Are you guys buying that story? I'm sure not! Plus, even if he's telling the truth, and his brother is the bad guy, he should have never told his brother the password to his ebay account.

This stuff happens all the time. 2 years ago I was selling off a few 52 Mantles for my father in law, and each time I listed one sure enough my scan was stolen and some A$$ was trying to pawn it off as his. One of the times cost me some good money when my buyer noticed the other scan/auction and backed out after winning mine. I even went as far as to scan the card in my hand while holding that days newpaper and he still got scared off. He actually told me the other guy wrote him telling him the card was his and I WAS THE SCAMMER ! I ended up selling that one for almost $2000 less than I would have had he gone through.

the watermark idea is a great one, think I'll start using them too.

While I think that the theft of a pic to use in a fraudulent auction is downright criminal, I'm not so sure I agree with ebay's policy about using another previously posted photo. If you have the "exact" item (and we're not talking about cards with varying grades), I dont really see anything wrong with using a pic you found elsewhere. I've had people use pics of mine and I can't say that I really mind. If you put it on the net, its kind of fair game these days. Just my opinion.
  • Hey Southerncards:
I agree 100%. I think some of people will disagree with us though. In this case, If I was selling something like a video game and someone else had the same game to sell, I could care less if he would use my photo in his auction.

problem is we are not talking about video games. A cards value depends largely on its individual condition.

Exactly, and that is why I got so pissed off and not only notified/warned the winners of his auctions, but also sent a nasty email to the idiot seller along with notifying ebay regarding him.
