May Special Grades are In...mostly 70s stuff

I am pleased overall. I was surprised by the 5s but that's just grading. image The two not holdered cards are pretty surprising to me as well. I thought they matched up with the others but what do I know?

will any of these be upgrades to your all-star set? i imagine the 5s are minute surface creases on one of the edges of the card. i had an 81t carlton come back a 5 and i had to bust it out of the slab to find the problem and it was pretty obvious when out of the slab...so obvious it should have been caught by me before submitting...arghhhhh

    congratulations on the grades

    Thanks,

I think you are 100% right regarding the surface creases, LD. I have had it happen to me as well. image

The 76 Bench is definitely an upgrade to my all-star set as is the 78 Jackson. All of the 9s for 81 are too (except for the Brett). The 75 Rose is particularly disappointing as it looked terrific. I really thought it had a great shot at 9.

Bobby, that is a nice solid submission. If that 76 Concepcion is the one you bought raw a few weeks ago, I am not surprised it came back a 9. I thought that Reuss was a strong 9 contender as well. Getting a 9 on the 76 Bench is also nice work.

That PSA 9 81 Sutter must be a sweet card. That 81 Reggie seems to be a tough one. There is a 9 currently on Ebay, first 9 I have seen in awhile. I won't be bidding on it since I like the eye appeal of my 8 better. There is also an 81 Bench on the Bay, not bad, but it has the smudge that my PSA 8 Bench doesn't have.

I am readying a submission of mainly all star cards to send in on this special. I don't think there are any 10 candidates in the mix, actually maybe only one or two 9's. But, they are cards that I either need for my collection or that I feel I might be able to make a couple of bucks on if I ever decide to sell them.

Thanks Bob. That is the very same Concepcion and Reuss. I thought the Reuss looked the better of the two... There was also a 76 Rose that I was outbid on from the very same seller....man, I wish I would have won that one! image The Sutter is a really nice card. I agree with you on the Jackson. Good luck on your sub and keep me posted.

  • Damn rangerman--that's a lot of 10's
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Forget blocking him; find out where he lives and go punch him in the nuts. --WalterSobchak 9/12/12

Thanks ,,and I'd have to admit these don't happen all the time. A little luck and some great cards. With these modern Topps cards, there is always an advantage because of the new product, but I still am amazed at how certain cards in each set are extremely difficult to find the PSA 10 centering. I'm always hoping for a sub like this, but my previous best was like 41 tens out of 120 cards submitted. I'm spoiled now 'cause I know I got the right grader. image Best of luck---- Tony
