Popularity of F.S. coins????

I got the NGC numbering system on CD today and they have all the F.S. numbers for coins categorized. How big is this segment of the hobby? Are they as popular as VAMs? I know the PCGS plans to EVENTUALLY attribute F.S. but they don't currently. I'm trying to figure out if I should include all the different variety indexing systems into my bar code reading software. Need an idea about how prevalent these types of coins are collected, bought, sold, etc.
