#$%@! the US Postal Service! Help!

So I send in a submission yesterday via Express Mail. I look online today to get confirmation it has been delivered, and it tells me they "have no record of the item." I call the customer service line, they tell me to go to the post office. So I go to the post office. They say, "oh, it probably wasn't scanned in, but it's on the way. It'll be scanned in when it arrives at the destination."

The hell it was. It is now past their 3 pm delivery time and it has not been delivered. Still showing "no record of this item" in the system.

Fortunately, it was insured, but what should I do? Any helpful comments would be appreciated.

Patience. Patience. In six years selling on Ebay I've never had the post office loose a package.
  • Did they guarantee it would be delivered today?? Not all destinations are next day using Express mail.

If it was guaranteed for todays delivery you are entitled to a refund in the shipping costs.

Their tracking system is lame, but their delivery percentage is fantastic. Don't sweat it.

  • I've been told on numerous recent occasions that the tracking/confirm site is not being updated on a consistent basis like it should. Check it again later tonight and if you still don't have an answer by tomorrow morning, get a refund on the delivery cost at least. I'm sure PSA will have it today/tomorrow, so the best you can do is constantly check the sites...
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

I always use delivery confirmation with the USPS and they rarely update it until the package's final destination. That is lame. But, I am confident it will get there.

Yeah, the USPS is pathetic with updating the tracking information. In fact, they even state that if you send something by Registered mail to not even bother using the tracking number because they don't update it. I had an item shipped from Washington to me (CT) on Friday and the USPS still says that it was just "accepted" in Washington and the item is not in my hands. image

  • Don't you have your customer copy from your express mail label?

I have used Express Mail just once, and the package didn't make it to the destination on time. I told them about it, they checked their records to verify that it arrived late, and they refunded my money. So it was delivered late, but free.

I totally agree with this statement. lately I have been mailing priority items in Anaheim Hills California on Saturday and over half are delivered to east coast addresses on Monday. Amazing! Just $4.10 for pratically overnight service!

An update: I called the Express Mail hotline and they cannot find the package anywhere. There is no record of it ever being scanned, and the post office in Newport Beach has not received it. The local post office has no record of the item. Basically, this leaves 2 options: 1) the package got mixed in inadvertently with the first class and priority mail, and will show up in CA in another 2-3 days; 2) the package was stolen by a postal worker at the local post office. The cards in the package were valued at over $1000.

  • How long do you have to wait before you can get a postal inspector involved? If you insured it for $1000, then that would be considered grand larceny, correct?

    I agree there.

Boy they sure hate paying out money, at least mine does.

I've used express maybe 10 times for coins and they've refunded me 2 or 3 times.image
  • I am never using Express Mail again.

No, never say never, just don't use that clerk again. It was the clerk who was suppose to scan it in and didn't.

Glad to see everything worked out.
  • Good to see you got your package w/ soon to be free shipping!

The USPS is an amazing organization. I have never lost one package.

You guys are lucky! They've stolen about 3% of all my packages over the past couple of years (8 packages), 7 of which were insured, but it was still a pain.

I may use them again, but not with anything of real value........especially the 2 1957 Topps Hal Naragon cards that were in this package...........the most sought after common in the 1957 set in PSA 8. One of them was already a PSA 8 and I was simply wanting it reholdered. Last night, I was kicking myself for using Express Mail to send those cards in. What was I thinking?
