He's saying it is a Sheldon 67, not MS 67.
Not bidding on it either way!

hmm... i thought the sheldon scale was the grading scale. - this is a quote from an investment site...

"Certified rare coins are described using the Sheldon Scale. It begins at 1 for a just recognizable coin and progresses to 70 for a theoretically perfect coin. As the grade on the Sheldon Scale increases so does rarity and price. "

You are confusing the Sheldon grading scale, mentioned above, with Sheldon's variety attributions. See below:

"The greatest modern large cent researcher was Dr. William H. Sheldon, whose definitive Early American Cents was published in 1949 and revised in 1958 as Penny Whimsy with the aid of Dorothy Paschal and Walter Breen. "Sheldon numbers" have become the standard for designating the varieties of 1793 - 1814 cents; the variety number being preceded by his initial "S"."

Went from $220 to $270 with 7 seconds to go.

I know it's important to plug the hole in the type set but I would've passed on this.

I think you will find they are plugging a hole in a variety set, not a type set. Having said that I do think they overpaid a little. The S-67 is only an R-3 coin. That piece has nice surfaces and detail but the rim hammering hurts it bad. If I was looking to buy it I would be thinking the $200 - $250 range. (Of course I haven't been real successful in the last few auctions I've bid in, so maybe I'm the one who is out of touch on prices.)
