In checking out the auction description of this coin a question popped into my head. I've always wondered, with this overdate truly easily seen with the naked eye, why did it take so long for it to be discovered?
It's difficult to believe some coin collector some where didn't spot this overdate sooner rather than later.
Has there ever been a satisfactory explanation as to why it took many many years before it was discovered and documented?
